Oil change question..

For my Bx-22. Manual says it holds 2.6 US Qts. At that amount
the oil does not get past half way between the dots on the stick. Something about having less oil in it this time than with my last oil change, I swear the engine comes to a smoother hault when you turn off the key than it did when the oil level
was up at the top mark on the stick. Is this possible or am I
smokin with the indians? is there a preferred range for the oil level to be at.

Well, it is possible that your oil dipstick isn't reading correctly. There is a plastic (or rubber - not sure) fitting on it that determines how far the stick goes into the engine block and I think that can be moved. As long as you are between the upper and lower marks on the stick you are in a safe range, though, and if you are convinced that the engine runs (or stops) better with a bit less oil then you should be OK. I dont think the manual takes into consideration an oil filter with that change. Noticed on my change that 2.6 did not even get it on the stick, 3.6 was right on the mark though.

Did not notice any change in starting or stopping the engine though.

The manual for my B2710 calls for 4.1 liters. This takes me to exactly the top line on the dipstick. It then drops back a little. (I believe due to filter absorbtion.)

The spec, however, for UDT and what the dipstick for that tells me is totally out of whack. The spec volume pushes it way above the high line on the stick. I'll be calling Kubota's technical department tomorrow morning to find out what they have to say about that and will post my findings.

Oh. I hate doing oil change on my bx22. It is all easy but removing the front grill and then the sides. My old JD was much easier.

Why do you remove all this? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif I can get at the filter without removing the sides and the drain is underneath. I also have a BX22.

Sorry Mike, my apologies........ I just assumed that everyone here had the basic tools to service the tractor. Here is what I use. I purchased the band wrench at CAP (Consumers Auto Parts) and it works like a charm. Don't remember the cost, but if I had to guess, probably under $10. All the other strap wrenches in my tool box are for larger filters. I am a firm believer that if you are going to save the cost of dealer service, then you should at least purchase the proper tools to do the service. For those that don't know what size strap wrench to purchase, the Kubota brand oil filter is 3 1/4" in diameter. With this tool, you can remove the oil filter without removing the hood and side panels..... I am assuming, that almost everyone here owns a 3/8" drive ratchet and a 3" long extension to complete the necessary tools for the job. The oil filter is Kubota part number 70000-74034.
