Has any body used the Lucas Oil additive products. I am wrestling with using synthetic oil or pet. oil with some additives. As in a prior post, I have some long term storage concerns with small HP gas engines. Thanks. Rich

Rich, how long do you call "long term" storage? My pressure washer/sprayer with a 3.5hp engine and my DR trimmer/mower with a 6hp engine, and the chipper/shredder with a 5hp engine sometimes don't get used for several months at a time, but I've never had a problem with one because of that. Where oil additives are concerned, I know some people swear by them (and other swear at them), and my personal opinion is that they are simply a waste of time and money. But I'll also say that I've never even heard of Lucas products.

Bird, one machine is a ztr mower, it sleeps all winter dreaming of fresh young grass. The other is a generator who is waiting to keep my kids warm when the power goes out, 2 or 3 times a year. Both have low hrs and I would like to do right by them. (and also keep my maintenence tasks as simple as possible.) I have gone up a level with regards to equipment. Before it was push/riding mowers, old equipment (ford 8n, gravely). Now it is Kub tractor, comercial mowers, generators, weed wips, etc. I feel like I am out of my leage at times, and I appreciate all the help you and your friends on this board have supplied. Rich.

Rich, I expected to hear some other opinions on this question by now. I still think you're better off to use good oil (petroleum or synthetic) and forget the additives, but of course, I also think it's a good idea to start the engines and let them run long enough to get warm periodically, but I often forget and don't do that. I've been told by generator service technicians that the most common problems they have are from lack of use; that they need to be run under load at least once a month.

Use a good oil (I like synthetics) and you will not have to use an additive. Plus some additives don't agree with some oils. Try to stay with the same oil time-and-time again
