Up here the farms school tax is over $22,000 and the real property tax is over $10,000 not counting the houses.
My personal school tax is $3600 and almost $1800 for real property and that's with my veterans exception, house is valued at $256,000.

Guess that's why jobs pay big money up there .... Don't need much to live pretty comfortable here

D@mn Duck! How much land are you being taxed on, sounds like some heavy commercial taxes, for quite a lot of land.

The $1000 a month is the tax on the 2 acre property that I live in. My farm and timber lands are under agricultural or forest taxation, practically nothing. We do not have state income tax so the property tax and sales tax are two of the big ways the state gouges us.

A good job! I sure couldn't afford to live in that state.

I'm not sure how the younger ones are going to be able too even with two incomes,
there are many people that have escrow accounts for taxes that are more then their mortgages.
It is an expensive state to try and live in, especially when you also have sales tax and income tax,
as well as high taxes on fuels.

Our property taxes in Texas seem high until I hear some of these amounts.

We passed an amendment to the Texas Constitution on Nov ‘19 to increase the threshold in the Legislature required to pass a state income tax to a 2/3 vote of both houses. This effectively bans a state income tax in Texas. We have a 6.5 cent state sales tax and most cities/counties have added their 2cents.

Know what you mean. They raised my property tax last yr. They said they had been using books from 2006. they upgraded to current tax books this past yr

No matter your assets. If you become disable, you pay zero property taxes.
Guess that's why so many here are on disability !
