( ( In a lot of applications bar channel (aka c-channel) will give as much and sometimes even more strength than than tubing. Most, if not all, heavy duty construction trailers use bar channel for their frames. )
Do you think that is because of economics or because it's just stronger ? )

Economics does play a large part, especially in a production environment but that is not the only reason. Figuring in stresses and such, for that application bar channel will be as strong as tubing. Why pay more and get no added benefit other than the extra unneeded weight?

Way too many non-professional builders (like most of us) use square or rectangle tubing under the false impression that their work will be stronger. In most situations this is not the case at all. The only winner here is the steel supplier who is making a better profit at our expense. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Depending on the actual application, a properly sized length of bar channel will do the job just as good, if not better, than a similarly sized length of square/rectangle tubing, and it will cost less.

Warning: I just got what I thought was the Country Man Trailer form Northern Tools, had a small issue and called Country. NOT THEIR TRAILER. Its a knock off out of Canada! Now I don't know who copied who but the trailers are IDENTICAL. The Rep at Country Manufacture said they no longer distribute any products through Northern Tools because of this very issue. They are so close that it is too early to tell if there is any quality difference. Hope I have not been snookered.

Wow, great thread! I have seen this thread for a while but just checked it out. I may have to order a Country Mfg Dump Wagon.

Been debating for a year or so what to get, seen the ones in Northern, but I didn't want a trailer.

I thought about a road legal dump trailer, but now I want a Ford F550 Dump Truck instead! It would be perfect for my new business with my Kubota. But I will need to wait a year or so for some good cash flow.

How does the Country Mfg look and work behind a Kubota L3430 or other 30hp tractor? My bucket holds 1/3 yard, if I could haul say five or six buckets of sand or black dirt?

I just want the dump wagon for my use on 40 acres, I can get local people to haul dirt in for my business for now.

Kevin,

There's no doubt a road-legal dump trailer would hold up better than Country's offerings ... they are built much heavier.

I'm sure the Country units (either the wagon or the trailer) would work just fine behind a L3430. I believe my B2910's bucket is also 9 cu. ft. .... 5 or 6 heaping buckets of wet dirt would probably be a stretch. The units are rated for 4000 lbs. ..... I don't know that they are built to exceed that by much, if at all. You'll get alot more life out of it by making sure you never overload it.

If you wanted some a little heavier you would be better off doing what LarryRB did - buying a heavier running gear (I think he bought a 5 ton Kory unit) and building a dumpbed for it. Now that I've seen the bed and dump setup on the Country units it would be easy to fab something similar for a larger gear.

Could be that you made out .... perhaps Northern quit carryng Country's unit because they weren't as heavy as they liked. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I hope you have better luck with the copy trailer than I. Bought one from Northern thinking it was a Country Manufacturing trailer until I looked at the sticker that said Millside Manufacturing, Canada. Two loads of pea-gravel later, the dump hinges bent! Called Northern, they didn't (or wouldn't) say who Millside Manufacturing is other than they just started selling their trailers this year. Still fighting with Northern for last 3 weeks to get this junk off my property! Bought a Country Trailer last week and other than a swing gate would be great, it does everything I wanted it for.

I designed and built one for my Country Mfg dump trailer. Take a look at this thread.
