I’m wondering if I filled up my 100 gallon tank with bad diesel. This was filled up 7 months ago and the backhoe fuel filter/separator just clogged up with like brown gunk. I changed it and it worked fine.

How do I check the fuel in the transfer tank? Any additives that I should add?

Drain some fuel from the transfer tank unfiltered into a large glass jar and look at it. You'll be able to see any water, algae, gunk, etc. pretty easily.

Brown gunk is microbial algae. Bad Ju Ju. I'd dose your fuel with Powerservice Bio-Kleen according to the bottle instructions. I use it religiously all the time. Been down the algae road and it can be expensive to fix.

Are you using bio-diesel or a bio-diesel mix? That is a lot more susceptible to microbial growth.

Is your tank outside in the heat and cold where condensation can form inside the tank?

As mentioned a Biocide added to the fuel,
and I would add a filter to the outlet of the tank (pump).
After adding the biocide I would run the pump circulating the fuel in the tank to get it blended well.
Then have some spare filters as the dead algae will pump up your filters.
I did clean up a storage tank one time that got infested, after treating it with a biocide twice I started ciculating it in the tank using the dispensing pump it took several filters to get it cleaned up.
Now I routinely add a biocide at every fill up, just as a preventive measure.

I was down with bad fuel and clogged fuel lines a few years ago, when getting ready for winter and didn’t really need the aggravation.
It took me a couple of weeks to figure out what was wrong.
Biocide is cheap insurance.

Between biocide in my diesel and Blue Marine Stabil, I've been issue free for a couple years now. I also quit using B20 as well.
