Off Road Diesel

Howling, when we had that done, the driver fastened a reducer pipe onto his nozzle, which certainly slowed down the fill rate. A second oil tank would be my choice, if I were using enough diesel to warrant such a set-up. There are some good additives, so I wouldn't worry about it sitting for 6 months or so. But, I am going thru maybe 20 gallons a year (don't really know?) so it isn't such a big deal. Our neighbor, with his big Deere, has a 500 gallon tank.

LONG ago, I had commercial accounts for fueling my trucks. At my house I had a diesel pickup, and a diesel Isuzu Trooper. I helped a friend of mine take out a 275 gallon tank, and decided to put it at my house for personal fueling. Naturally, I paid on road tax. One day they filled it while I was not there. When I got home I noticed that they had charged me for off road. Bonus!

About a year later, this gentleman from the state knocked on my door and said he was here to help!!

ONE tank, ONE time. Cost me about $700.00 in taxes and fines!! I find it easier to buy on road these days, but I'm not running a business, or equipment that I used to.

I have a friend who owns an excavation company. His company fuel truck comes to his house once a week to fill his Case 580 and diesel cans. They then come by my house and fill my BX and cans with off road fuel.

He is a good friend.

Glad we don't have a rule like that here. You can buy all the ORD all you want, and you don't have to sign anything.

These types of threads usually make me feel bad about living in over taxed, over regulated NY! However, I have no problem buying all the off road diesel I can use right at the pump from several stations within 10 miles of my house-both in NY and PA- I live right on the border.
I have filled up the tractor on the trailer and 5 gallon jugs with out a problem or having to sign anything.

No dif between on road and off road today, all ULSD. The difference is price and dye. Off Road is use tax exempted so it's less and it's dyed red so if you get caught with it in your diesel vehicle tank, you get fined and it's a bunch... I believe 2500 bucks first offense. Easy to check too. The enforcement officer sticks a clear hose in your filler. puts his finger over the end and withdraws the hose. If it's red, you pay, if it's not, you skate.

I have mine delivered, usually a thousand gallons at a time.

Real simple.

Maybe what this country needs is an off road tax.

I guess I have been lucky to escape any drama. I get bulk red diesel delivered at no charge as long as I get 150 gallons at a time. NO TAXES and no hassle. I have never been asked to sign any papers regarding farm use either.

That's exactly how it works for me.

Your mistake was asking. Just put 3 gallons into the tank and pay them for it.

By asking, you gave the dummies permission to exert some control. Dummies like control.

When I got off road at the Exxon station, I just bought it like any other fuel. Mine was in a container. I can see where some dummies could misconstrue your intension when driving up and taking some into your drive-up vehicle.
