My DK45HST has developed a strange problem. Occasionally, it will start and immediately stop running. If I turn off the key, then restart it, it will eventually start. So far, once it does eventually start, and does not stop running.

I have replaced the ignition previously, and did find the negative battery lead was broken. I then replaced the cable, but had a problem getting the battery connection tightened completely. Once I did, I still continued to have the issue, and it seems to be happening more frequently. It seems to be happening on restarts, versus initial start-up, but since I have only had the problem for a few days, it may become more frequent. Any thoughts?

The stop solenoid requires continuous 12v power from the key switch for the engine to run after the initial 1-sec pull pulse. So any power interruption could cause this and that's worth checking. But it could also be a fuel problem, such as an air leak into the fuel feed line or filter.

I'll check that out. Thanks

Possibly water in the fuel blocking flow from the filter, when was the last fillup?

After the problem began. I put my fuel through a filtering funnel. I've used the tractor all day today and the problem has not occurred again. It's dry and in the 70's, so I'm not sure if that matters or not.

IF you have a 'see thru' fuel filter type bowl on the tractor, watch it as you start up, and it dies. See the level go down in the bowl ? You have a tank, or line from tank, obstruction of some kind.

In my case, it was a small wasp floating around in the tank that would cut fuel flow down to near nothing as it floated over the tank outlet....but then, mine would die at random times (when the wasp blocked flow) while operating....no pattern to it.
