OK... I gotta know. How do you keep that much weight, in an upright position, from falling over in those waves? Ever try and carry a flag pole around?

Couple of things.. Those landing legs are really large and spread out really wide, AND the majority of the weight is down low so the center of gravity is low, and the unit vents the remaining fuel as soon as it lands. This lowers the COG further, and then the really interesting part happens, some very brave man runs out just as soon as possible when cooled enough and literally welds the legs to the deck of the ship. They grind the welds when in the dock.

The crew successfully returned to Earth on Sunday with a splashdown in the Gulf of Mexico...this was the first such mission in the history of American space flight using a commercially produced vehicle...I thought it was quite amusing when the ground controllers welcomed the crew home with a warm welcome message followed by the words..."...Thank you for flying SpaceX..."
