147 cub cadet with 321a kohler engine. the engine will idle fine but will not rev up without sputtering and stalling. with the air filter off it does blow a little gas back out of the carburetor when trying to rev up.

Possibly could be as simple as needing the carb adjusted, to needing to clean the carb, or adjust the valve clearances.

Could be a leaking intake valve.

depending on the year , it still might have points and condenser ... or the coil is weak... does it spit black smoke from the exhaust when it stumbles ?

thanks everyone for your help. we finally figured out that the kohler needs a coil with a built in resistor. put on the right coil and it runs great. thanks. nukelbuster
