Receive mail and email requests for funds but never via the phone. The requests don't bother me and I will respond to local requests that seem effective and reasonable. My state senator and state representative are both NRA members, don't get me started on my CONgress people (Hoyer, Mikulski and Cardin). I do see NRA spending funds in a questionable manner at times but where would we be without them (us)?

Well, it's nice to see that I'm not the only one who gets/has gotten calls wanting $.

I gave $ to them once, and it was solicited by a phone call. I guess that permanently moved me to the "he gives via phone call" list. I'm probably responsible for my own demise with the NRA :(

At the time, their sales pitch was something along the lines of "act now, or we may lose our gunrights forever....." Now, it seems every call states the same thing.

As Soundguy said, I won't make this thread political, it wasn't my intent when I started it and it isn't today...I know our gunrights are in trouble, but geesh louise, do I have to get calls each and every day?

I don't mind emailing congressmen, writing letters to senators, etc. I've done that many times before. I like letting my representatives know that I'm watching what they are doing and am concerned at how they are voting, it makes me feel good and that's worth the postage/time/effort :)

The next time they call, instead of hanging up, I'm going to ask to speak with someone that can permanently remove me from their call list. I don't mind the mail, so I'll leave that alone.

As for Wayne Lapiere's salary, he has an extremely high profile job, meets with some of the most powerful men in the nation and is on the same "team" as I am. I feel his salary is commensurate with his profile.

I know what happens once you give a soliciter -- any soliciter -- money. It's not pretty.

I would think that the Red Cross would get a little bit of a break considering what they do. Personally I think the blood banks don't do enough to collect. One would hope their "telemarketers" have more of a sales pitch. :)

That's the NRA line, alright, but is it really true? If you only consider facts instead of emotions, I don't think so. Admittedly there are those who would like to take your gun rights away. There have always been folks like Jim and Sarah Brady and always will be. But think back about 40 years. How many states allowed for gun permits or concealed carry permits or licenses? Texas sure didn't. Yep, I'm in favor of your rights to own and/or carry a weapon, and yes, we need to let elected officials know, but in my opinion, our gun rights are in better shape now than they have been since the mid-1800s.

:D Scotty, it's been many years since I donated anything to the Red Cross; not one of my favorite organizations. However, Carter Bloodcare will be calling me within a couple of days after I'm eligible to give again to tell me of their desperate need for my blood type.:D I usually do the "double red cell" donation; takes a little longer, but it'll be longer before they call me again.

I know what you mean Bird and for the most part I concur. However, the movement has never been stronger to ban guns or to govern/limit THE PEOPLE authorized to own them.

Perhaps I should not have responded to this thread. It started out as purely solicitations for money (and blood, which struck me funny because of the comparison), but has drifted into politics which is a prohibited topic on Tractorbynet.

I think this thread has run it's course...to preclude it from going in that direction, go ahead and close it out Bird....
