When on my home page and go to favorites TBN has the little yellow sign with the black tractor for the icon.

Well several day ago it changed to the same common one as other favorites.

Now I just noticed it is back.

What's your guess as to what happened and can you instruct me as to changing those little "critters".

I just checked and I still have the little tractor. My guess would be that it got accidentally removed and has now been put back online. They have been doing some work recently.

I believe these small icons that appear next to your favorites and in the address bar are called favicons. I use them on my websites too. When I use Internet Explorer they usually show up for a day or two and then go away. When I use Firefox or other browsers they don't disappear. I have read many articles on these icons but no one seems to know how to make them permanantly appear on Internet Explorer. Many people with Internet Explorer don't even know that they exist.

tallyho8, are you talking about the little icon in the address bar? If so, I have the yellow square, on point, with the black tractor in it next to the page address, & I'm using Firefox (for years now). BTW, I'd love to know why these are there.

I've been using a little program from PC Magazine for over 6 years called FavOrg. Here's the description:

FavOrg scans the Web sites in your Favorites list for favicons -- custom icons provided by the Web site. The icons are displayed on the Favorites bar, the Favorites menu, and the Address bar. Custom icons make the Favorites list easier to scan, letting you locate a given shortcut faster. Microsoft added the custom icon feature to IE5; FavOrg brings this functionality to IE4 as well. Favicons are usually lost when you delete your Temporary Internet Files, but FavOrg preserves them. The program also lets you associate any icon you choose with a given shortcut, even if no favicon is provided. Since FavOrg must check the validity of an Internet shortcut before attempting to download the favicon, it automatically flags dead links as it goes through your Favorites list. If you like, it can update redirected links or reset dead links to the site's root. FavOrg was written by Patrick Phillipot, and first appeared in PC Magazine November 7, 2000 (v19n19). Source code is included.

Here's where to get it for free:

It's caused me no troubles and is quick and easy to use. I use it now with XP but don't know if it works for Vista.

My first thought when reading this title was a vision of how fast my paycheck flies through my fingers and goes to who knows where.

Yes, since you are using Firefox you can see the favicons that are on some web pages. When you make a web page you add the html for the icon to the html in the heading of the web page you are making and then it will show up in the address bar when people visit that page and also on your list of favorites when you save it to your favorites. You can use ready made icons or make your own custom icon with different programs. The html you add to your web page is similar to this that is on one of my pages (<LINK REL="SHORTCUT ICON" HREF="http://www.geocities.com/theslsc/favicon.ico">)without the parentheses.
This html tells what it is and the web address where you have the icon image hosted. If you cut and paste the web address that is between the quotation marks you will see my icon. I wish I could find a way let people with internet explorer see them and keep them on their favorites.
