when i first moved here in 1996, i had to clear an area of fir trees for my house. when i went to the city to get building permit i asked if i need a permit to cut trees.....they gave me a blank stare. asked me if their my trees. i said yes. they said go nuts.

The Oakland City Council passed that resolution on Oct 6 last year. The record of the meeting and the staff report prepared as a basis for action are available online.

I would get a non-string trimmer and get to work.

One question I have is there was no consideration of 4 stroke trimmers. The main issue is 2 stroke engines (sound and air pollution). I havea 4 stroke Husqvarna which is very quiet and clean compared to the 2 stroke equivalent.

Oakland is far from 100% urban... that's part of the problem... tens of thousands of acres of open space, parklands, equestrian paradise and Redwood Groves...

The wildland interface runs just about the full length of the city's East Bay ridgeline.

The city council responds to noise from constituents. Generally. I guess there is not much of a constituency for 2 stroke engines. Other than the mow and blow lawn companies.

Since 1980 I've been doing hillside fire suppression with handlebar trimmers...

The terrain is rugged and taxing covering many acres...

Now illegal to use gas powered trimmers and herbicide is also problematic as root structure is to remain providing soil stabilization...

It's just nuts...

I start my grill fire with lump charcoal and one Tumbleweed. In 15 minutes you close the lid and you reach temp in around 5 minutes. In a rush or if I want high heat I also use a forced air heat gun.
