I wonder if they would prefer a controlled burn for fire suppression?

And yet people stay there.

Greed?

Or, ...?

Running out of sympathy pretty fast for these idiot laws.

You guys stay, so you must like it.
Never been one to cut and run or abandoned elders...

Stihl Dealer just sold 40k to retirement community... if you go to Stihl site you find many battery items not available...

Just think of me as the canary in the mine...

When California implemented unleaded fuel my old car friends across the country said it will never happen where they are... we all know how that turned out across multiple continents...

I'm so thankful I live in the free state of Wyoming. Well, Teton county excluded. They are fast becoming Jacksafornia.
Wyoming is beautiful with few encumbrances across vast areas...

It's coming... Diesel Bad, Natural Gas banned in growing number of cities...

Heck, the sale of new gas powered automobiles is law in Berkeley with implementation a few years out...

Auto Dealers are significant to tax base and told they have 6 years to go carbon neutral.

Had a record number of uncontrolled burns in recent years... Sky turned to night for days under a layer of ash...

That said the garden has never been better... it's thriving like never before... maybe the layer of ash a factor?

Had a friend that made an excellent living exporting like new low hour gensets from Hospitals and Industry...

The rest of the world had no compunction using California cast offs...

In post #1 click on Oakland bans . . ., then click on the link Ordinance No. 13616 C.M.S to see File # 18-0537. In the tab labeled "Details" there is a line labeled "Attachments"; click on the last attachment 5 13616CMS. (I think it reasonable to deem the last iteration is the current one.) At this point allow the download of 13616 CMS.pdf, a 9-page document. On page 7 there is the following paragraph:

SECTION 4. Grace Period: . . . The six- month and twelve-month grace periods shall be extended by an additional six months if the City Administrator determines, based on the City’s current equipment inventory and public safety considerations, that additional time is needed for the City’s compliance with the Ordinance. Contractors hired by the City for the purposes of Wildfire Prevention Fuels Mitigation are granted a grace period of 24 months on the use of combustion engine-powered string trimmers after the final adoption of the Ordinance.

Disclaimer: I am not an attorney, and I have doubt that the the state of California will accept the doctrine of a "reasonable person", but it does show there are exceptions. If city contractors can mitigate wildfire fuels, is not fuel on private land a public safety consideration?

You don't have to be an attorney to see the absurdity in this. Californians have become subjects and not citizens.

The Oakland City Council passed that resolution on Oct 6 last year. The record of the meeting and the staff report prepared as a basis for action are available online.

Hint: Oakland is 100% urban. The city council gets a lot of complaints about leafblowers and string trimmers.

I would get a non-string trimmer and get to work.

One question I have is there was no consideration of 4 stroke trimmers. The main issue is 2 stroke engines (sound and air pollution). I havea 4 stroke Husqvarna which is very quiet and clean compared to the 2 stroke equivalent.
