Rad, on the ROPS they make them high so that if you turn over sideways it will prevent it from continueing the roll on over so that is smashes you. Think what would happen if you rolled it sideways on a hill, would it just flop over and stop the roll or would it keep on going? You are not supposed to drill, cut or weld on the ROPS, as it may weaken it. Of course it is your tractor and you may do as you please but that is the thinking on them. Yes they are a pain sometimes, but I could show you some roll over pictures here on TBN where the ROPS apparently saved the guys, and also saved the tractor from more damage. So to sum it up.. yep they suck, but they may be necessary at some point in your life.

Yeah I know all about roll overs. I am a heavy equipment operator and been so for 40 years. I've been on 2:1 slopes with dozers and motor graders. It can be hairy sometimes. Never turned one over though. I don't have much of a problem with turning one over here but there is always a first time. I even had a friend killed on one years ago on an old Oliver Three wheeler. He drove off in a ditch and it pinned him under. It is a very bad deal. I won't get rid of it for sure. Just make is shorter somewhat. I am not going to do any welding or anything to the original but make a new top half that works for me. I have measured it and I should be able to still keep it a foot above my head to work. I usually take the loader off when mowing as well so that eliminates that possibility as well.

Yeah Joplin is a lot flatter than around here, better tractor country for sure. Around here you gotta be thinking constantly about turning it over. I could tell a story about something that almost happened recently.. well I will go ahead and tell you, long as you don't spread it around:)
We were moving big rock last week, when the wifey says says it is time to move that ole big one I had tried once before and failed. Anyway I got under it finally with the forks, but could not lift it. So we removed some dirt and loose rock on top and one side slowly came up. I am at the limits of my lift ability, but managed to get it a little closer to the pivot pins and get some more lift on it. So anyway I was able swing it around and get ready for the final lift, but we decided it had a protrusion that had to be busted off to fit in the space. I shut off the tractor and by habit, I dropped the ballast to the ground, Mistake number 1. Then I got off of the tractor, Mistake number 2. The tractor was on a slight incline (everything is on an incline in Branson). The rock was still on the forks and about 8 inches above the ground.. Mistake number 3. So when I got off, as I was coming down the step the tractor started to roll toward me, when my foot hit the ground, I pushed the tractor back to keep it from tipping over. By keeping about 100 lbs of force pushing the tractor it was stablized..Some would say that was mistake number 4, but I kept the tractor from rolling over.. removing my fat behind from the seat and getting off was enough to start the roll. Anyway the wife went around to the other side and dropped the loader joystick down to let the forks/rock on the ground and problem solved. Whew:eek:. I won't be doing that again..Whether it would have rolled completly or stabilized before it it went past the point of no return I don't know, but she said the offside rear tires was 6 inches off of the ground while I was holding it. Danger is around every corner.

I have a pretty hilly place, too. Most people around me are a lot flatter than I am. I will remember your story. I have had a few "pucker" moments, but I don't think I've been close to tipping. It's good to hear things like this so safety stays in the minds of rookies like me. Do you use the seat belt? I'll admit that I've only used it once, but I recently decided that if I think I might need the seat belt then forget it, I'm not tractoring there in the first place. I only have a couple "risky" spots, so I just don't go there anymore. Easier for me than some, probably.

Yeah you never know when that extra fat is needed hahaha. I have dragged or pushed some big rocks around to get them where I needed. One day I'll have to show you a video of pushing a huge piece of concrete with a bull dozer. Made a very impressive splash when it went in the water. Hi DDB. I forgot about you being pretty close. Diamond was it not?

Yeah I remember that now. I widened the Hwy through Granby years ago. I'm really between Neosho & Seneca about half way. It sure is a nice day today huh?

You are right by my sister and brother in law then. Yes it is gorgeous! Would be a great day for some recreational tractoring, but unfortunately I'm about to head to work. :(

It's a small world! I was surprised in the Missouri thread by how many people live in this area.

Yes it is.. I met someone in Germany a long time ago that was a neighbor in Colorado and only lived a few blocks from me. I didn't believe him when he told me where he was from. Had to prove it to me with his drivers license. Well I have to turn this computer off. Everyone have a great day. Even if you have to go to work :(
