Actually the B24 reminds of a story my father told me. Seems that he was inspecting an airstrip on one of the islands in the Pacific. My father was so intent on inspecting a part of the runway that he did not notice a bunch of B24's lining up for takeoff. Seems that the lead pilot inched his plane up until it was 20 feet from my father and then revved all four engines (with the brakes locked of course). My father turned around, saw those 4 huge engines and got the hell out of there like a scared rabbit; not before noticing the pilot doubled over in hysterical laughter. My father shook a mock angry fist at the guy and wished him well.
I'm curious is Ploesti (not sure of the spelling, that oil refinery that the Allies tried to bomb in WWII) in Romania? Was your father in on that raid?
