\'Nother PT-425 Issue

We gassed up and mowed the plantation area today. While we were fueling, we found that the tank leaks around the filler neck if it is close to full. We also noticed the filler neck's rear two screws had never been installed (no matching holes in the tank either). The leak, however, if at the front of the neck where there are screws.

Any other PT-425 owners have this problem?

If I fill it over the line that is about 2 inches from the top, I will get splashing that will come out of the cap. I think this is because it is a vented cap. I now only fill to the line, or even an inch or so under it. It still leaves me with about 5 hours of fuel. I never looked at the screws. I will when I go out next time(around Monday or so).

Yep. Mine has leaked since new. I think its because they use a cork gasket, rather than than rubber, in the cap. I bought a new cap last week at Wally World but it didn't fit.

Snowridge,

Mine leaked between the gas tank cap attachment piece and the plastic gas tank . I put in a new rubber gasket which eliminated most of the problem.

I talked to Terry this morning. He said the tank comes from the supplier with the neck and cap in place, so the missing screws are because of a supplier error. I guess the PT assembly line folks didn't notice it, and it would be easy to overlook. We didn't notice that they were missing until I started to investigate the seepage.

I guess I'll see if I can find similar screws locally. I may try to replace that cork gasket too. It looks like it is common for it to leak.
