Not quite tractor, has anyone built a home made CNC table?

I just got my Cutmaster 52 and I was looking at the prices of CNC table kits there really isn't much to them for the $5-10k that they want, has anyone made one at home? Being in N. California, my generator is about out of gas, so I'll search later, power comes back on some time next week

You may find some helpful info on the CNC Zone Forums. Many folks have built their own CNC tables.

Since you're near the San Francisco bay area, you might want to check out the TechShop, a community workshop with plasma CNC, Laser etching CNC, even a 3-D plastic "printer", and much more.

Yes, we have built a couple of them. Purchased most of the necessities off Ebay, although things have gone up over the years. It still is the best source for (reasonable) slides, steppers, controllers and ball screws. The table size will be limited to available pieces. We have been limited to about 48" slides. If you were to buy the slides and everything new, you would be further ahead to purchase one already built.

I built one. I don't believe I have $1000 invested in it including the computer and software. Started using it over seven years ago, and its still running perfectly. I use it almost every week for something.

Here's a stainless heatshield I cut and bent two weeks ago. And a bracket to replace a plastic part, built this week.

Torchmate CNC plasma cutter in economical kit form - Hypertherm plasma cutters, robotics, motion control systems, automated shape cutting, automation, cnc cutting table, metal art, ornamental iron, wrought iron, automated welding, automated cutting has a 4'X8' cnc plasma cutter I built. It works well and is not too difficult if you want many of the same part. I don't use it as much as my oxy/act pantograph machine though.
