Well, after much research and ordering the 2800 gear, it dawned on me that the machine has a single stage clutch/pto. I use a rear finishing mower and salesguy said won't work worth beans until moving. Now what. A 2800 hydro or L3400 which are essentially the same price and $1500 more than 2800 gear. Any input on the single stage. Had a Jinma with 2 stage and able to start the mower before moving tractor which was handy in close quarters. Am I wrong or right on this. Real dilemma...now spending almost $16k to mow the lawn!

How much lawn are we talking? Are you just going to use the tractor for finishing mowing? What other tasks?

I would see if the order can be cancelled and then start again researching what you need. Trying to mow without a live PTO or at least a 2 stage clutch is a nightmare.

I finish mow about 3 acres of lawn up here in fertile PA. Jack, I think you are correct, a nightmare. Just gonna spend the extra $$ and get the hydro I think. Dealer is great and apologized for the misunderstanding as I told him exactly what I was doing with it originally.
I really prefer the 3400 with gear, but figure the resale would be higher for the 2800 hydro and I really don't need the extra hp. I also use to drill fence holes, move mulch and rocks and smooth over my gardens after rototiling. Kind of big, but nice and comfortable. Besides an 7510 or 2230 is about the same price so why buy a lawn tractor is my thought. Sold the Jinma as I put 100 hours on it and not sure how much longer they last. No one is sure, all have problems of some variety. Not trying to start an argument, but Jinmas are made pretty cheaply and not up to the Japanese quality by a far margin. Cheap way out and you get what you pay for. What a hobby.

HST for rototilling is a darned good match, Mo. You'll like that. As to L3400HST vs. L2800HST, they're both the same size and weight. Probably not much difference in price either. I'd go for the L3400HST. It'll have what it takes if you get into heavier stuff and have better resale to boot.

Just helping you spend your money /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif.
