John Deere 2210
I went to the Deere dealership today and the had a 1 series out there. Can't remember the model but I think it was a 1023e. It just seemed like it was built some really cheap materials. What really got me was the hood, it was the same quality plastic I would expect from a power wheels Gator sold at walmart. It was just so flimsy that it was appalling.

Many other parts of it just looked cheap to me, at least in comparison with my 2004 Deere 2210. It looked good on every video I watched online, but in person I felt as though it screened China.

Have they really stepped down in quality or am being too critical for a base entry level tractor?

I owned a 2210.
There is no way I would give up my 1026R to go back to a 2210.

well taco i had same thoughts as you. I have an old john deere lawn tractor that served me well and i was sure i was gonna buy a new 1026 deere when i went looking for a new tlb. I was very disappointed looking at it at the dealer:( i especially didnt like where the backhoe attatches . I looked at massey and kubota and found the bx25 was a much stouter machine. Im very happy w my bx. Btw i still have my old deere lawn tractor, cant get myself to sell it:)

Whys that? Is it because of the versatility that the 1026r offers? I feel like my 2210 is built more solid than the 1 series I looked at.

I honestly wish I had one of those new 2720 models.

Granted I dont own the 1 series but for fun I've tooled around a little at the dealership.

I guess to me a flexible plastic hood isn't really a sign of overall quality. From what I could see frame 3pts and all the under body parts looks every bit as good as its precursors. Granted not a fan of tier 4 diesel but that's not Deere fault. Maybe I'm way off base but that's what I though when looking at them.

I must say I looked at a few a couple months ago at the dealer. From far back they looked good but when I got up close the plastic is way too thin. I opened the hood on both of them and the hood would not go over the lower plastic panels even on both sides when closed. One side had a gap I could see through where it did not fit over properly. I have been around Deere machines all my life from the biggest to the smallest machines. I hate to say it but they kinda embarrass me with some of the stuff they are putting out these days. Now I know all brands have gotten allot cheaper over the years but seems like Deere is starting to lead the pack on the cheap side. Where is the Deere I growed up with? I remember a time when you mentioned the name Deere people thought quality above the rest at a higher price above the rest. Now it seems high price and cheap quality. Is it really that hard to put a quality metal hood on them? If your gonna use plastic at least make it sturdy.

If all you are looking at is the skin & do not like plastic, then it is true that the 2210 is more solid built.
I bought the 1026R for what is under the skin.

Much better seat & ride.
Position control 3 point hitch.
Easy to remove 3 point hitch arms.
Drive over auto connect deck & PTO.
Fuel tank in fender.
Also not afraid of blowing up the rear end while using a piece of PTO driven equipment.

As for the 2720, I owned one of those also. That was the most disappointing tractor I ever owned.

Yeah I only examined the surface features of it, I didn't really look at the most important parts. It's just that I was disappointed that there was some visible cost cutting. The things that matter most are mechanical reliability and operator comfort.

That is something that worries me about my 2210. Knowing that my rear pto could take a crap if I hit something with the tiller is unnerving.

I don't think the 1023 should be considered a replacement for the 2210 although the specs look similar. My guess is the 2210 falls between the current 1 series and the 2 series.
