Coming home from work yesterday, as I was coming up a hill where my van (1991 Dodge 3.9, auto, lock out torque converter, I guess?) usually shifts, trans seemed to go into neutral. Didn't think I was gona get it home, but could put it in reverse, then back in drive, would go aways, them maybe when it tried to shift, would quit pulling again. Was hoping maybe leak and low of fluid, but is full. Could this be electronic or something it valve body, clogged filter:confused: Thank you Aaron :confused2:

Possible! Your chance of a clogged filter, if it stopped it, probably not a good ending. Best advise, have some one look at it. I am not sure how much electronic control on that year. My wife was driving my old faithful 95 Escort a couple months back, it left her stranded by the road, thought transmission went out. At 55 mph (at least that is what she said) it dropped hard in 1st gear. Good news for me, as loading up on trailer noticed speedometer was not working. Took home, got underneath, pulled speed sensor out and found it very sticky. Cleaned it, oiled it, works like a charm.
I still had first gear working with a faulty sensor. A tech can hook up and find if you have a solenoid fried or clutch pack fried. Good luck.

Thanks! I didn't know if there would be any codes for trans, but found in my book there were. One was for torque converter solenoid. Did the code search and that was the only one that came up. Book doesn't show where it is, is it inside trans  Thank you Aaron :confused2:

All of your solenoids will be in the transmission. Knowing which one is the next question! Maybe find a reference in a manual like Chilton or, just ask a tech. Some of them are pretty good about answering questions for you.

It was the filter. Since this was my second used Verizon van, I thought they were well taken care of (ran the last one to 260,000 miles), maybe I was wrong. :confused2:

Thats great! I always have seen the ones that slip long enough and burn up the clutches first.
