has anybody used the 14" Northern tool cutoff saw that uses the toothed blade ? been wondering on getting one for projects. Have a 12" abrasive wheel but it throws a lot of sparks.

I have a 15" carbidetip blade for my stihl cut off saw great for demo cutting roots roofs etc. You have to have a big set of brass ones to use it . Little sketch.:drink:

I don't have the Northern tool but another brand of the same type. I've had it for a few years and used it for different projects, some big and some small. It works just as advertised. There is no heat, only a spark or two at times and makes a clean cut. It also cuts faster than an abrasive saw.
I haven't used my abrasive saw since getting this one.

I have one of those Ironton 14" saws. Works great. Tosses shavings all around. Faster than the abrasive cutting and tidy cuts as others have mentioned. I need to throw away the old abrasive saw.

I have a different brand also. It is a great type of saw. The very next tool I bought after the dry-cut saw was a 36" magnetic sweeper. The saw throws chips all over so wear glasses AND a face shield.

It sure beats having all that dust in the air from an abrasive cut saw.

Back in high school, I had a little Handler 130 and a 14" abrasive saw... hated the abrasive saw. Fast forward to adulthood, I purchased an Evolution Rage 14" a few years ago and never looked back. It's since been supplemented by a Dewalt 14" (nicer, more accurate saw), as well as the Klutch benchtop bandsaw. The carbide chop saws are a night and day difference over an abrasive saw, and very fast... however the bandsaw takes the take for cost per cut at a slight time disadvantage.

I have the Evolution saw as well and love it. Probably the thing I like the most is you can take a half blade width cut off the end of your material. An abrasive would just walk off the end forcing you to use a grinder or something else.

Blades are a bit spendy but I'm still on my first one even though it has several teeth broken off, still cuts fine.

I have an Evolution, but mine is a 10 inch sliding compound mitre saw. Really the only difference between it and my other miter saws is the low RPM's it runs at. In my mind the dry cut vs the abrasive, is like the plasma vs oxy/acetylene. Night and day in use. Perfect mitres.

I have the pre-Irontron Northern Tool cut off saw. It has worked very well for almost five years. I expect the current model to be good as well.
