Dealer Northern New England Dealers?

( Just wondering if anyone browsing the forum has had good experiences with any of the dealers in Maine or Southern New Hampshire )

I've dealt with Chappel in Milford, MB in Plaistow, and Toreku in
Harvard(?). Chappel is just plain overpriced and doesn't deal
period. Toreku is a small operation and I felt my numerous questions
were wearing out my welcome. Though they were a bit better
than Chappel. MB had the best price. Don't know if that is the
norm. They tell me they are the largest Kubota dealer in the NE US.
They seem focused on attention to customers but are a bit
disorganized.

When I had a creaky joint in my backhoe after about 10
hours on the machine they sent out a truck to pick it up,
fixed the problem and hauled it back to me. That's at least
a 200mi round trip for which they foot the bill during the
first year. So far I can't complain.

Giddings delivered free (was about a 180m trip one way). I wasn't charged any Vt. sales tax either because Vt doesn't have one or because it was out of state deliver, but I am, of course, liable for MA use tax which I have to report on my MA income tax return.

I live a few miles from wallingfords. I went to high school with one of the boys.

Seem like nice people. I checked them out when I was looking into a lawn and garden tractor. They didn't seem to want to mess with anything smaller than a BX. I know a lot of people buy from them. Seems like they are more farm and heavy eqpt. oriented.

I've heard good things about RS osgood up in dixfield. Real aggressive on prices. But.. I think you are into different colors for that one! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Why are you liable for Mass. use tax? I also am getting a delivery from out-of-state and am not being charged a tax at time of purchase. Should I expect to pay my state tax at some point? Could you explain to me why this is? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

GerardC: Glad to, but keep in mind that I am in MA and its law applies. If you are in NY, it may be different, but I suspect that it is probably similar. Under MA law, if you buy something out of state and bring it into the state and use it w/in a certain time of purchase (I think it is 6 mo.) you are liable for a use tax at the same rate as the MA sales tax. This is expressly to prevent MA residents from circumventing the sales tax by buying out of state and to protect MA retailers accordingly from losing business to retailers in neighboring states without sales taxes, or to mail order or internet purchases. The MA income tax return has a line at which you must declare the use tax on the amount of your out of state purchases to which it applies. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Now, of course, I can't speculate on the extent, if any, to which there is effective enforcement of this law. Maybe MA doesn't have the resources or inclination to check up on whether people are reporting and paying the use tax. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif ....then, again, maybe it does... /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif It is certainly POSSIBLE for the state to check by requiring interstate shippers to produce their shipping documents, etc. If the state did, and you had made substantial purchases that you hadn't declared, I suppose that you could always say that you were either ignorant or /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

...I DO know that quite aside from any questions of morality or being law abiding /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif, that taxing authorities are not good folks to have a p*ssing contest with, because the odds are, that if they catch up with you, you will lose, and lose considerably more (what with penalties and interest, to say nothing of possible prosecution /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif) than you would have by just declaring and paying the d*mn tax.

I brought this up before, it doesn't matter, particularly if you finance the machine. Then, you have UCC filing and this copy will go to your aassessors office and therefore, you'll not only pay state tax, you will be charged the excise also. Pay the tax at the dealer and let the dealer forward that for state tax.

Read your post regarding Chappell Bros., although I dealt with the Chappell folks in Brentwood, NH...not Milford.

Got a great deal on a TN65, they added a new canopy in the deal, shipped it to Pa for free, cleaned it up and performed the maintenance (it was used with 206 hrs); all was included in the price.

I couldn't have been happier!!!
