Noisy hydraulic pump

Just purchased a 3840 with 170 hrs. Had a small blockage (o-ring debris) in control valve causing slow bucket ops. That was repaired and fluid replaced, but my hydro. filter light is on and pump is noisy. Fluid level checks ok. I assume I need to change filter, and will, but is there an air bleed op. I need to perform? What in the world do you catch 5 gals. of fluid in? Love the tractor, hate the manuel. By the way, got this tractor with FEL, BB, and back hoe for 12,500, wasn't looking for a replacment for my 1957 Ford 600, but had to do it.

Anyway, hopefully the debris in you hyd system has not caused your
hyd pump noise. Fortunately, the filter is before the pump intake.
There is no air bleeding necessay. Expect MORE than 5 gal of hyd
fluid to come out when draining. I just use multiple containers and
pass the empty one under the flowing stream. If you are tossing the
old fluid, some oil change plastic containers can hold 4-5 gal or
more. Also there may be multiple drain plugs.

I have a plastic 55 gallon drum that I cut off of at just the right height to slide under the tractors that we use in my shop. Works good and cost nothing. It's also wide enough to cover a few drain plugs at once.

Thanks for the info. The filter replacment corrected the problem and turned off the light. Takes a long time to refill the fluid at the rear of the tractor with a backhoe attatchment. The tractor was cheap because the former owner was moving to Alabama. Ended up buying a mobile nitrogen tire fill van from him as well. Hope to have a little business as I approach retirement soon.
