I've got a 4 acre field that I just broadcast seeded a pasture blend seed mix. Should I have used a no-till drill? What would I expect to pay for a no-till drill? Bye the way, I'll be pulling it with a MF 1428 (28HP)

Thanks for your help.

I imagine a no till drill would be a bit too much for your tractor to pull.

But I have never used one myself so I don't really know for sure.

I have always just used a disc with a roller to scarify the surface, then seeded and rolled again to get good seed to soil contact.

That has always given me decent results.

I think the cost of a true no-till drill might surprise you. The cheapest new units I've seen are over $5,000. Probably closer to $8,000. The prices goes up fast with larger sizes and added accessories. It would be overkill for your acerage. If you're in an ag area with larger farms, you might find someone to contract.

Here's a link to one manufacturer. http://www.truaxcomp.com/grassdrill.html

Check with your local farm coop or Ducks/Pheasants unlimited. Each may have a drill available to borrow/rent. Our local Pheasants Unlimited has one and helps people financially to put in wildlife food plots /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
