I have a FMC sidewinder GB-602 brush hog. The thing does not have a level plug anywhere on it, I've been all over it several times. It has no oil level plug. It has a fill plug above the shaft in the middle but I'm thinking this would be way too much. Some vines got into my seal and tore it up, I replaced the seal but have no idea how much oil to put back in it. Any ideas????

Same with my WOODS mower. The manual says to fill until you reach halfway past the shaft. I had to shine a pen light in there to see anything. It is about half way. Might try a pipe cleaner to measure.

Thanks a bunch, at least now I have a target. I knew it didn't need to be all the way to the fill plug but had no idea other than a pic I saw on this site of a gearbox that had the level plug right in the middle of the side of the housing. Your post confirmed that. Thanks again!

Just a bit of shadetree engineering since, thanks to you, I had a target. I could see the back side of the gear through the fill hole. I dryed a spot on the gear with several qtips and made a pencil mark on the dry spot. I also placed a corresponding mark on the shaft. I rotated the shaft in small degree increments (over then back to center) intil the mark became wet. Mine became wet at about 70 degrees. Which is a little on the full side since half way up the shaft should have been at 90 deg. But I figure that was close enough. Thanks again.
