I know I need a come along to stretch "no climb" fence but how do you attach the come along to the fence to stretch it? How many feet of fence can you stretch at a time?

Thanks for the info.

You have one of the greatest "come-alongs" already in your yard - your Kubota L3600!

Bolt two pieces of 2x4 lumber to the end of the fence, attach them to your drawbar on the tractor, and pull.

As to how much to pull - no experience with that, somebody else will chime in. I would guess that you pull it until it's nice and tight. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I have done the same as DocHeb bolt 2x4 or 2x6 to the end of the fence use two 2x4's and sandwich the fence between them. I use three bolts, top, bottom, and middle. Then loop the chain around my drawbar and attach to the top and bottom of the 2x4. Put the tractor in low range and stretch. I have stretched up to 50 feet of fence at a time and as little as 10 feet. It depends on the lay of the land. On flat land I can stretch 50' with no problem.
If the land is rolling which alot of mine is I will stretch the fence lock the breaks on the tractor and go to the low points and make sure I can push the fence down and not have the wire so tight that it pulls the steel post out of the ground.
If you are uneasy about stretching with the tractor you can attach the come-a-long to the draw bar and chain. But the 2x4 method works great and I can bolt the 2x4's together faster than I can slide a metal bar through the fence.

I am sure you will hear from other people on this site that have other methods just as good or better.

Woven wire fence in a 2"x 4" grid. Called that because some horse can't climb it and get all tangled up in it... Some can, anyway, there is no limit to a horse's ability to maim himself...

"V" mesh (AKA KentuckyHorse Fence" is better at keeping them safe, it is the dickens to stretch...

OK, that sounds logical to me. I am going to give it a try a.s.a.p. I am wainting on a metal hydraulic line to come in Wednesday for my tractor. I love messing around with these tractors. If the government ever finds out how addictive it is, they will outlaw it or tax it! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

We have used a piece of metal bar stock slipped or woven through the end of the fence. Takes less time than bolting on 2X4's

They sell a stretcher that is made with a 2x4, metal bar, hooks for your chain and quick release bolts. I finally broke down and bought one. It was relatively cheap. We actually use our come along with our tractor. The tractor becomes the anchor that we attach to. It seems to make it safer and more consistent for us. I guess it is a matter of personal preference.

Is there a web site for that tool? I just made the two by four system they told me about. If that does not work out, I may give it a try. I bet the tractor attachment suppliers wish that I would win the lottery! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
