I remember being on a tieback job in Walnut Creek California. It was for a 3-story underground parking garage. We were drilling and driving 27-inch I-beams 120-feet long for the soldier pile. Some how one of the beams got bent. The project superintendent came up with the great idea of walking a excavator on top of the beam grabbing one end with the bucket and picking up. I told him I could straighten the beam with heat. He had never heard of such nonsense. Well the beam started out with a bow in it, when the excavator got through with it, it had a huge S in it. The superintendent came and got me, and said fix it!

For smaller concentrated heating, bending and straightening, I too just use a regular cutting tip to heat. You can also get the rosebud tube with an adaptor to install a cutting tip on the end. This gets wicked hot in a very small area. The rest of the rosebuds heat a large sized area and gobble fuel.I have a few weed burners but have never tried one for heating anything but cast iron. I'll give it a try..I bent the wedge on my log splitter and needed a 100,000 btu propane bud to get the area hot enough to bend it back. Then I split some oak and promptly broke it off...Back to the shop, lol.

Do they make those cutting tip rosebud things for purox torches? They sound really useful. If not, what torches do they make them for?
I might have to keep my eye out for a cheap victor handle sometime.... I bet they are a lot easier to get tips for than my purox and smith aw1..... LOL Even if I just use it for heating and such.
