Multiple Fords and Kubotas
Currently, I have 4 Kubotas including an L6060 and a B1750. I am currently shopping for a B3350.

Serendipitously, I received two quotes for a B3350 yesterday. Included in my quotes was a front weight bracket and 5 front weights, as I plan to use a 600 Lb. 5' rotary cutter with this tractor some of the time and some of the ground where I will use it is steep. The weight bracket was quoted at $110 and the weights at $80 each.

While having my morning coffee this morning and browsing Craigslist, I spotted an ad for "5 Tractor Front Weights and Bracket" for $175. It said nothing about Kubota so I clicked on it only because that's a good price for most weights regardless of usage.

Bingo! It's a set of 55 Lb. Kubota weights and front bracket that will fit my B1750 (not needed), my L6060 (already have front weight bracket and 7 weights) and the forthcoming B3350.

I bought them over the phone and picked them up within 2 hours. Good thing as the seller told me that he had other buyers lined up.

Did Kubota get the B3350's straighten out? I know the first ones out had some problems.

The new ones now have most the kinks worked out. But if you don’t need the pto horsepower the B2650 is definitely the way to go. That’s what I went with.

Agreed.

I'm going to replace a VERY good 12 speed 8N with the 3350 to operate a 5' rotary cutter. The 8N is about 27 PTO HP and I sometimes use all of it, so the 2650 is not an option.

Yeah you need at least the 3350. My 2650 doesn’t have enough power to use the 3pt snowblower to hard. But I really wanted to stay away from the emission equipment. And the 3350 was the most troublesome. From what I’m told they got it figured out. But when I was deciding on mine the owner and mechanic strongly advised not to get the 3350

27 HP out of an 8n is very optimistic. Plus, it's geared way too high. I use a 5' cutter on my NH with 23 HP at the PTO. I can make an honest comparison having owned two 8ns. Forget asking the HP. That NH does a 10x better job mowing. If it gets really thick you can just slow down.

Actually a late model 8N in good condition will pull over 25 PTO HP on the dyno. NE Test 443, June 16, 1950 - June 27, 1950: 25.49 belt HP at 2,000 engine RPM. Operating at 2,100 engine RPM as mine (and nearly everyone else's) do and adding a small amount to compensate for the losses in the PTO belt gearbox should result in a bit more than 27 PTO HP.

I have both 51 and 52 8Ns, both with Sherman combination transmissions. I use the 51 on a 5' rotary cutter to mow a few small parcels that do not look well if mowed with one of my larger tractor/mower combinations.

I usually keep the Sherman in underdrive, slowing both ground speed and PTO. The reduction in PTO speed allows increased engine RPM while, at the same time increasing PTO torque. In first gear Sherman underdrive at 2,000 engine RPM, I can cut stuff that my very good Ford 860 will struggle with when in low gear, though I use neither for such duties anymore.

This is why I would not even consider the B2650, even with a hydrostat transmission.

With the problems with regen on the B3350, I wouldn't have any interest in one at half price! Spend your money on something that won't be a problem that was supposedly solved.

Sadly, I agree. I wouldn't take a B3350 on a bet. My dealer says that they just sit on them waiting for an uninformed buyer, anyone that knows the whole story runs from them. And, he says that they are still fighting the issues, with the updates to the software, some amount of customers are happy or at least happy enough... but there are still a number that no matter what, the machines are poo-poo. The B3350 is a bad omen, the best you can hope for is that you get one of the good ones and not one of the problem children goes back and forth to the dealership with no real sign of a fix.
