Tractor
New Holland TN65A, New Holland TN95FA
I have been lurking on the sight for almost a year now and through an interesting family situation have came into semi possession of a New Holland TN65A. It clearly hasn't been taken care of the best but to my knowledge it did run fine around two months ago which was the last time it was started. The battery is dead, and an attempt to jump it was unsuccessful. I would assume the battery is the original battery. I then moved a battery from the other tractor we now have, a New Holland TN95FA to the TN65A and attempted to start it. The starter clicks and then engine just barely tried to turn over. The battery from the TN95FA is not the original battery and just a small automotive battery. Is it possible that even though that battery will start the bigger tractor it doesn't have enough juice to turn over the smaller one? The original battery from the TN95FA did seem to be smaller so this could be a possibility. Does the TN65A just need some starting fluid to get it going again? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

You probably just need to clean all the cable ends and connections. check the ground cable to frame connection.

Chassis end of the ground cable is a notoriously poor connection on TN tractors. Corrosion there has sold lots of batteries & starters for no reason.

The tractor is quite dirty as it sits and I plan on cleaning it as soon as I get the chance so this could be the problem. Too many people that do not know how to take care of a tractor have operated this one and I hope to get it running well again. I will post progress as i go along. Thanks for the feedback, it is much appreciated.

Update to the saga. Got the tractor started after bleeding the fuel lines. It started right up. Ran it for probably thirty minutes and never had a problem. Parked the tractor and got back this morning and it would not start once again. At first it was turning over and then it got back down to just making the clicking noise at the starter. I looked at the fuel filter and it seems like the bleed plug that you unscrew to bleed the line is not screwed back down all the way and will not go in any more. I also noticed that it does not feel like there is any pressure when you move the lever on the injector pump like there was before. Any ideas? I think this is what is causing the tractor not to start but have no idea how to get the screw back closed.

Having air in the fuel should not keep it from cranking over properly. Sounds like you have a bad ground connection or solenoid on your starter.
