Here are the pictures of my $60 oil filters cut open to see what's in them for that price. No check valves, like the guy from NH told me. Just regular filters with a high price tag on them.

Looks like a paper element too, but I can't tell for sure. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif What do you think?

How about doing the same with the little hydro filter and also the engine oil filter???

All three combined should be costing you $60 or a little more. If you're paying $60 for one, I'm glad I don't live near you /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

My local NH dealer is also pricey on filters... the air filter and hyd filter for my ex-1920 would throw you on the ground and jump on you... the oil filter was a tad more than a truck oil filter.. etc..

I realize the dollar isn't worth much but...... $60.00 for this is not the quality I had in mind. I am surprised they make the canister out of metal in place of some disposable treated cardboard. Wouldn't you like to be the proud engineer that designed this piece? They are going to force some individual to match this filter base with a compatable existing filter. One hates to be held captive to oem parts... especially this high performance standard.

The hydro filters are made out of fiber, something like the fuel filter. I wanted to see what is so special inside them to be such a high price tag on them. Nothing I could tell. I thought I might be able to buy them at walmart for $2-$3. That's all a car filter cost. No deal at walmart. The Wix filters didn't cost any less than the dealers price. So, I might have to stick with the dealers high prices until something else comes up.

I wonder what it would cost to have a machine shop turn an adapter for a cheaper filter? Or else you could check and see what kind of fittings it would take to hook up a remote filter mount for a regular Ford FL-1A filter.
