I bought this yesterday, so I’m servicing it. It’s been sitting for the last 15 years.

This is my first NH and I’m learning what pieces are what and what they’re.

What are the pieces in the pictures for? What is the function of this piece? And how on earth do you get to this grease zerk?? I can’t get a wrench in there to turn it 1/4-1/2 so I can.

The linkage in the 1st photo is the associated to your "super steer" model of tractor. It is the bottom pivot point of the super steer front axle. Your front axle's pivot point is actually behind the axle and this arrangement allows the axle to pivot horizontally and vertically with the top pivot point stationary and the bottom pivot at the end the long linkage. To understand this better, jack the front of the tractor at the front bumper and see how the axle moves horizontally and vertically.

The grease zerk is in the wrong position and should be rotated to a 4 o'clock position, how, I don't
know. It is important (top pivot point) and neglect leads to a difficult replacement.

Thank you for answering. This is going to be a learning experience lol. I did get the zerk turned with a little more cussing.
This came with turf tires and I need R4s. How would I figure out what the R4 size would be?

Current turf tires—
Back tires are 13.6-16
Front tires are 25x8.50-14

The ops manual lists those sizes for turf. The listed R4s are front: 25X8.5-14 rear are: 15-19.50 6ply. Looks like you will need new rear rims for the R4s. I got a pair of R4 fronts thru amazon, but I don't know if they still carry them.

Why do you need the R4s?

Where are you located?

I’m doing road work on hard packed rock for our neighborhood. I don’t know how these turf tire will hold up on it.
About 3-4 miles total. 1 1/2” crusher run and it packs like concrete once it’s dry. I live in Oklahoma.

If you are dealing with hard pack and not MUD, your turf will do fine, especially in 4wd. You need to be aware that the super steer models are basically in 4wd all the time, in that the fronts engage when there is slippage from the rears, otherwise they overrun the rears. The far left lever on the left console locks in the front axle all the time, for slope work or heavy pulling. My only concern would be the age of the tires, dry rot, etc. Keep them properly inflated, slightly below what is printed on the side of the tire.

Is there a loader on this TC 29D?

Ok I will give them a try. The tires aren’t dry rotted anywhere I can see.
Yes it came with a loader. And a mid mount mower that I’ll never use lol.

I asked about the loader because with the loader on a super steer model, the loader puts a lot of stress on those two pivot points for the front axle. Use the loader to lift the front end off the ground. Watch for play in the front axle as it leaves the ground. Hopefully it is tight and no play. If not, consider disassembly and hope it is only the top spherical bearing and not more. I bring this up due to that bearing not having been greased since new.
