Here's the classic 'newbie' question. I'll be buying a new or used tractor preferably before
winter. My choices have been narrowed down to NH, Kubota and JD. I'm looking for something
in the range of 20-25 HP, 4wd, loader, mid & rear PTO. Used for snow plowing, some mowing,
landscaping, light log skidding. I'm not too partial to any of the MFGr's. Any opions and thouhgts
will be greatly appreciated.

Penwar ,

I am also in the market for a tractor (25-45 hp) and I travel all over New England with my job and have talked to several owners and dealers and have drawn the following conclusions.

JD good tractor premium price.

Kubota great tractor fair price. (If you have Carver Tractor or another good dealer to deal with.) I have yet to find anyone to bad mouth a Kubota.

As far as NH is concerned I get a lukewarm reception on used, but the Boomers (new) are a quantum leap forward in design. (I believe for new, NH ergonomics are#1)

For me when it comes to used I would buy nothing but Kubota, I draw this conclusion from walking out in back of the multibrand dealerships and talking to the real pros ( mechanics ) and ask them which brand they own every one so far has been Kubota followed by the term bulletproof

P.S. I have never owned any of the 3, I have a 580 Case backhoe, so like you I started my search (5 months ago) color blind.... Hope this helps

Thats funny because all the mechanics at the dealer near me say just the opposite.NH first then Kubota if you have deep pockets.

If you will study the New Holland tractors over the last few years, it is several entirely different manufactured tractors all painted blue. It is kinda like three blind man feeling of an elephant and each one gives a different description. Kubota is the most consistent in design and similarity from the smaller to the larger units. There is an amazing amount of similarity in a wide range of HP tractors. This would be expected because they are the only manufacturer to design and build all of their own tractors in the last 20 years. The fit, finish, and operation reflect this, too. My Kubota salesman drives an old Massey, but only until he gets enough money to buy an M6800.

I can honestly say this that my Kubota has been trouble free over the years most of the breakdowns that have occured have been from abuse--me--. I'm not easy on any equipment I run it hard but I keep up on maintance. So with that said I can say overall a Kubota is bullet proof. Does it cost more when it breaks down--well once you get a few thousand hours on the meter and a seal starts leaking can you really complain!!

For goshsakes, the man should buy New Holland. Look on the map for ... NEW HOLLAND, PA.

And, friends, if older Ford/NH tractors are such mongrel duds, then pity the po' fool who paid me almost what I paid 12 years earlier for my Ford 1720.

Case closed. Go home, Greenwithenvy and Orangemen.
