I just picked up my first tractor, 2001 TC35D HST with 16la, and 757c backhoe w/ 400 hrs. From the backhoe seat, swinging the backhoe to the left is extremely slow, while swing to the right is normal. If the bucket is loaded, I can't even swing the arm to the left... I'm assuming its a problem with the hydaulic? I also noticed if I leave the FEL up after shutting off the tractor, after only a few hours it drops to the ground...

Have you checked to see if something may be stopping the handle from going all the way to the left?

Is there something bent or something jamming? Do you hear the hydraulic pressure relieve valve kicking in? What rpm's do you run the tractor when you use the back hoe? The FEL will drop down after a few hours.

The handle seems to move correctly (same as the right)... I have the tractor at about 2,000 rpms. Everything sounds fine, just not enough power/pressure when going to the left. I will try it today and listen for relieve valve...

I don't have a backhoe, so I'm not sure how the swing cylinders are mechanized and connected to the hydraulics, but it sounds to me like you might have a leaking cylinder (internally). It could be a stuck relief valve and it could be a leaking seal in the control valve also. The fact that it seems to work in one direction makes me believe the problem is either the control valve or an internal cylinder leak. I'd think there is a single relief valve that works for both directions and that would make both directions not work.

A few more things came into my mind this morning. You wouldn't have a piched hose, causing not enough oil to flow to and from the zylinder? Other than that... I think next, as Jim already said, I would check the not working hydraulic zylinder for internal leakage. Is the rod bent or has it deep scrars? Maybe you can turn the back hoe if you sit on it all the way to the right and make a picture... sometimes one pic, says it all... ;-)

Hi,
My manual says to look for bent rod on the swing cylinders or look for a jam in the swing linkage.

Question? Did you leave your 3 point arms attached when you installed the B.H? When I was a newbee I distroyed one of my quick release handles when the swing cylinder caught it. I never heard it grinding. But I couldn't swing all the way in the obvious direction.

My suggestion would be to remove the cover over the BH valve block (see picture). Then follow the hoses from each left/right cylinder and reverse the hoses on the valve block itself. Then fire up the tractor and see if the cylinder will work using the newly positioned valve. This way you can rule out the cylinder as being the culprit right off the bat and you'll also know if the problem is within the valve block.

Once you get the problem figured out let us all know. We all learn from one another problems and repairs.

Pineridges suggestion is a good place to start to isolate the problem from the hyd. block. You could swap the swing hoses and see if you can't turn the other way. Also look at.
1. The bolt/nut that hold the handle in place under the rubber boot- It may swing easily one way and not so much the other if it's loose.

2. Check your proportioning valve that diverts Hyd. Prx. from front to rear. Probably not the cause as your other hydraulics work but....

3. These backhoes will work even when idling, just not such a quick response or powerful so you should not need 2K RPM's to diagnose.

Keep us posted on where the gremlin resides.
