I just got this 8n in the summer. I am going to use it mostly for snow removal. It starts and runs fine but won't charge. It has a 8 V battery, the voltage regulator has 9.2V markered on it. I was told the genny was tweaked as well. I assume adjusted the brushes if it's that type. How can i test the genny and the regulator? I know 8V isn't well received but im stuck with it for now.

8v imho is an abomination.
sounds like the vreg has been tweaked to charge at 9.2v to charge an av battery.
no tweaks to the genny..it's simply a vreg adjustment.
motor and full field test will test the genny and vreg. have a vom ready.
IMHO.. 8v is bad for the point snad lamps.. points can be compensated with correct primary ressitance on the coil.. but not much to do fo rthe lamps.. and if it ever goes dead.. not many commercial 8v chargers out there.. though you can make one...

a 3 brush genny using a cutout CAN be adjusted to charge higher.. most 8n's use a 2 brush setup, or even if using a 3 brush setup, are using a vreg in tandem with the 3rd brush job, and the vreg handles it.
to motor test a 2-brush A circuit genny, remove belt, jumper bat to arm, and ground field.. gen should spin if it is good. most gens that motor, will charge.. most gens that charge, will motor.
full field test.. can do this when hooked up and running.. jumper field to ground and she should make max charge
