I don't know how to weld but I understand you don't really have to know very much to use one of those wire welders. I want to get a welder to do relatively small stuff. My wife wants me to make her a bottle tree out of rebar.

Any suggestions as to what would be a good welder to purchase. I know some of them are 120 and some 240. Am I better off getting a heavier duty welder in the event that I want to take it further and actually learn how to weld?
Any suggestions appreciated.

Thanks

Depends on just what you want to do with it. Sounds like you probably don't need more than a 120V machine. The Lincoln Power Mig 140 would be fine. I have a Power Mig 180 and have been very happy with it.

Yeah if you have any plans to do more serious welding get a 220V powered model. Many MIG welders especially the multiprocess machines today can be run on either 110v or 220V power but will do thicker metal and heavier rod/wire when using 220 power. While many newer machines have features that make them easier to use for someone new to welding, practice still makes perfect.

Here is what a 220-volt Mig welder can do.

With any wire feed process, you want to run as hot as you can handle it.
With Mig welding I really like Lincoln's L-56 Mig wire.
