This may seem like a silly question, but are you saying that when the control lever is released and centered, the boom arms continue to rise?

If so, would think something on the control lever is not adjusted correctly or some linkage is getting loose?

It's a totally mechanical deal, and it's not like a releif valve getting stuck or something of that sort.

Yes, I am saying that when the control lever is released and centered the boom arms do continue to rise; however, I can stop it by pushing the joy stick forward. I suspect you are right that it is a totally mechanical deal. I took the rubber boot off and got down to the nut which holds the joy stick and the nut was tight. I put the boot back on and then raised the bucket up and down several times and used the dump position several times and then when I stopped I just raised the bucket and all is well with no rising of the arms. It worked for a while then the bucket started to raise again. I'm lost now and in the woods. Looks like I'll just have to keep working on it.

I've never used the lock but I believe it is to allow you to lock the joystick in the neutral position so it cannot accidentally be activated. Truth be told, that is a wild *** guess however as I've never looked it up in the manual.
ED- Good guess, that is what my dealer told me it was for.

It can be a useful feature, especially if roading on semi-rough terrain. Bouncing can cause the joystick to move and actuate the cylinders. If the bucket is relatively low and the joystick gets bumped or bounces and sends the bucket lower.... well you better have your seatbealt fastened. Once again, I think this is a feature courtesy of our Euro friends. I know joystick lockout is a standard feature on the machines we design and build for the CE market.

I could be wrong but I believe this mechanism under the control lever controls the hydraulics remotely through cables. The nut fell of mine and I lost all pressure for boom up. You may need to follow the cables and look for an adjustment on them. I have the same tractor/loader.
