I bought a ym1610d about a month ago and I think it is great. my question is about 4 wheel drive, I had someone tell me that I should only use 4 wheel drive in range 1, is this right?

IMO, it really depends on the tasks you're doing. I think loader work in 1st range is too slow and too taxing on the drive train (and can even overheat engines at normal RPM). In most other applications like finish box blad'ing, back blad'ing or back dragging with FEL bucket, all finish work, 1st range is fine.

Mostly, I use FWD only when it's absolutely necessary and usually to get out off a stuck situation or assist in plowing into fill when filling the front bucket.

Use it in whatever range you want, but it's best to use it sparingly, only as an assist, (it's not as beefy as the rear differential), and never on a hard surface.

There was a discussion on this a couple months ago. I never take mine out of 4WD in any range other than when I'm on pavement. I have one tractor that hasn't been taken out of 4WD in six years. No problems at all.

Thanks for the replies, I haven`t used it yet but at least now I will know how when I do need it.
