satoh st1510
I'm a brand new owner of a probably very old satoh! lol This is my first 'real' tractor although looking at its size some people I'm sure would differ! :laughing:I don't know how many hours haven't found an hour meter; it did come with rear wheel weights and a 4' box scrape blade. The PTO turns so I'm guessing it works; it doesn't look like it leaks any fluids that I can tell. Is there anything that gives info on the fluids to change and capacities? The 3 pt hitch looks small, any info you may have on what implements could effectively be used on it? I'd really like to be able to turn a little dirt; maybe till a garden and take care of my driveway which is about a 1/4 mile long. I'd also 'like' to be able to pull some pines out of the woods on my 15 acres to pile up and burn. Do any of you know if this thing ever came with a FEL or if there's even one that would fit it? How about a snow blade? Even though I'm in SC that would be nice for some light snow removal and light dirt pushing...lol probably very light! :) Anyway if you have any guidance for this newbie I'd very much appreciate it!

AMP, what does your pto stub look like? I have a 1450 that has the 18 spline short stub but it turns clockwise.

Thanks for the reply; I'm in Pickens county up here in the upstate. I think my PTO turns the opposite and it is as Oliver stated the smaller splines. I'd love to be able to run a 4' bush hog and a tiller but not sure what I'd need to connect it and properly run it. I took it to a welder last week; he is adding about 200# to the front end to try to keep it down. Do these have the Cat 0 hitch or 1? Not sure how to tell the 2 apart. Thanks for the reply!

Thanks MIT obviously since the Satoh is 15 hp then I'm a 0! lol Very helpful; anybody have any info on what if any implement I can use the PTO with or what I can do so I can use 'regular' implements?

That chart is a general guide, not a law. I've had a couple under 20 hp tractors that came from the factory with category I 3pt hitches. Measure yours and see. A tape measure will work, or, better, maybe, is to use a trailer hitch pin. They are 5/8. If it fits snugly into top and bottom bushings on your hitch, then you have a category 0 hitch. If it has a lot of slop in the top link, and even more on the lift arms, it's a category I hitch. You likely have a category 0, but you'll want to know.

You could get new arms fairly inexpensively here: LOWER LINK ARM CATEGORY 1 - Agri Supply and then get a bushing to attach it onto the tractor side pins, if needed.

These guys sell 18 spline to normal 6 spline PTO adapters: PTO SHAFT-18 SPLINE
It may not help you if your PTO's rotation is reversed. You could try find a matching tiller for a Kubota B6000, or your Satoh. There used to be reversing gear boxes available; you'd be better off to sell the tractor and buy something else. I think they were around 600 or 700 bucks.

A loader that will work is available, try Coldwater and Koyker.

Coldwatertractors.com

Koyker Manufacturing - Loaders

You should be able to get them to adapt on, same with a front blade. Any competent fabricator will be able to do that job.

Good luck; let us know what you end up with.

Thanks a lot!!! That's what I was looking for! I believe my pto is reverse though as i've heard a lot of the grey's are. It goes clockwise looking at it from the top or from standing behind it; from my understanding that is the wrong direction for most PTO implements. I guess I will just use a turn plow and discs to do my gardening since they don't run off PTO until I can afford a bigger non grey market tractor. If anyone knows a good source for a tiller or bushhog that would work on this please let me know. Thanks again for the very helpful information 284!

You're welcome; I've been helped out a lot by other forum members, so want to do my part as well.

Standard PTO rotation clockwise if you're standing at the rear of the tractor looking forward. I read here: 10 Myths about Kubota Gray Market Tractors | OrangeTractorTalks (Myth #7) that there are only two Japanese tractors with counter-clockwise PTO rotation, the B6000 Kubota and the Satoh Beaver. I think your 1510 is similar to the Beaver; it may be the same. I don't know. Luckily, it's easy for you to check: Start your tractor up, and turn the PTO on!

Don't get caught up in gray market tractors being bad by themselves: It's only those two, few models that are non-standard. My gray market Yanmars are easier to find parts for than my International Harvester, purchased new from the dealer.

If yours is reverse rotation, I'd suggest calling some of the long-time importer and parts people, and look for a B6000 tiller. Check craigslist as well.

I will double check the PTO rotation when I get it back from the welder (adding more weight on front end) but if I remember right if you are looking at the PTO turn from behind the tractor it turned clockwise which I thought was opposite of standard! So i guess I was mistaken but I will certainly check that out as soon as I get it back first of next week. The tractor has started up every time which is also what the previous owner said of it so I'm guessing this thing is a pretty strong tractor! I will let you know the rotation next week...thanks again for the help...I know I will also pay that forward one day too!
