1948 Massey Furgeson TO-20
Just joined from Crozier, VA. 1948 TO-20. Replaced the seal and can't get the two parts mated. This looks like a great site, hopefully I'll become accomplished enough to contribute.

:welcome: to TBN fellow Virginian!

I can't help with your question, sorry.

If it were me I would post that question in the vintage tractor section. There are some VERY sharp folks frequenting that forum.

Be well,
David

Hi rip5896.
First et me welcome you to the forum and i am sure other members will make you most welcome .
Your question ? I assume you replaced the rear seal on the engine in which case you had to split the tractor??.
If yes you removed the clutch and flywheel ??
you replaced the rope seal and refitted the flywheel and clutch ,??
If yes did you CENTRALIZE THE CLUTCH DRIVEN PLATE that is make sure the plate was Exactly in the centre if not you will have to split the tractor again and remove the clutch ,get either a bolt or a piece of round bar about six inches long that fits neatly into the flywheel bearing hole then using masking tape or insulating tape build up the diameter of the round bar so that it fits nice and tight into the splines on the clutch plate what you want to do is make sure the clutch plate is dead centre on the flywheel.
This is a cheap way to do it ,if you have access to a lathe make a tool out of steel.
When the plate and the clutch are assembled using two GUIDE bolts 7/16unc thread x4 inches long one each side of the bellhousing bring the two halves together line up the guide bolts and gently push the two halves togetherwhen you get them say two inches apart get a tape measure and measure the gap ALL THE WAY ROUND and adjust till it is equall when done gently push the two halves together ,it may be neccessary to put the tractor in gear and turn the engine buy hand just to line up the spline
Let me know how you go .
Happy Days
Hutch.

Thank you for the input. I've actually got it together again but I will save your information as I'm sure it will come in handy, it will be good to do it correctly next time.
