I recently purchased 40 acres in Tennessee. The land was former timber company land that has about 25 acres clear cut and the remainder in timber. The land has a lot of stumps left and is rocky in nature. (Small rocks and clay soil). I am wanting a tractor, bush hog and FEL to maintain the property. I would like to remove the stumps so that I can plant hay or grass for about 15 acres around the three ponds and house/barn. I plan to let the rest grow back natural. I will be adding fence around the property over the next two years as well. I have seen several package offers from dealers for the L4400, bush hog, box blade, with the FEL and trailers (some 18' and one with a 20') with a brake axle for $24 - 25,000. The offers also include up to 60 month interest free financing. How do you folks feel about this package and price vs. used?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Jerry

If you have a MF dealer around you check out the MF1648. Massey is offering 0% for 72 months or a free loader.

A 6' bush hog. Open on the box blade

Unfortunately, the last time I ran a tractor was in my high school summer days working a 1,000 acre farm for my uncle in New Mexico.

This is a new area for me after all these years so I am looking for advice.

When I purchased this property last month I was thinking that I could buy a good used tractor and bush hog for around $5,000. Now that I see the tree stumps I find I need a different rig than I first imagined. :)

Hmmm, guerrilla marketing for MF. On the Kubota forum no less. How elegant.

Thanks for your endorsement of the 4400. I like the package deal with the trailer, bush hog, box blade, chains and boomers. I am not sure if $25,500 is a good price.

I am very pleased with my Kubota L3240, Not as strong as the L4400 but what I needed. I got 0% on mine. You might want to check and see if they will do 0% on all the stuff. They might be able to cousion the price so you can get all at 0%, but if you read the Kubota wed page its on their equp and land pride stuff. They will finance the whole amount but might want to pro rate the other stuff so you might not get full 0%.. I bought my own trailer and blade seperate. Got the tractor and rot.. cuttery on 0%...

While the L4400 is a great tractor I would suggest you rent an excavator or hire someone with one to clear the stumps. It will be MUCH quicker and save a lot of wear and tear on your mind and equipment. Removing 15 acres of stumps is a lot of work even for an excavator. My neighbor has a 60 hp JD 8000# and even that is not large enough. He cut the trees and then hired an excavator for clearing just two acres and it was about a two day job.
