Newbie, but not really

Hello all! I've been lurking around this board for quite some time, finally got around to signing up. My former internet provider (AOL) was not very friendly towards any discussion forums, but I've made the switch to Firefox. I have an 04 DK45 and I absolutely love it! I use it for a side business doing backhoe, mowing, and landscaping work. I've got 960 hours on it with very few troubles. Ignition switch/starter solenoid shorted out and the started the tractor by itself. I came home from work and found it running. Imagine my surprise! I guess it's a good thing I always park it in neutral with the brakes locked. It now has a battery disconnect switch, problem solved! Bring on the snow!

First, welcome.

I wonder if it could have self started if you had left it in gear? On the HST versions there is a lockout. Will the starter motor turn if the tractor is in gear?

Welcome to the Pack!

I also find it weird that your tractor was able to start by itself. I know on my 06 CK20HST you have to fully depress the clutch before starting, you would think the gear version would be the same...

If a starter shorts out all bets are off it will by pass all saftey switches and let the games begin.
Thank god no one was around or got hurt.
On the other hand that makes a good excuse.. but hunney the tractor just started on it own...I don't know how it ended up in the lake and now look it's junk we need a new one we should go to Wallace's and look at the new cab ones

Welcome !

I stopped drinking the AOL cool-aid many years ago. At the time it took alot of effort to get rid of all their memory hogging/controlling programs off my computer.
Actually a battery disconnect is not a bad idea for any machine that does not get used daily.

Hey Rick, I tried that already with my local dealer, Jon Park's Tractor. I went in for a mower part and he reminded me that my tractor is almost paid off, why don't I buy a new one. I was fine with it, but my wife had something different to say! I said, but honey the new ones are more full efficient, thus saving on fuel! I guess I shouldn't have married a smart one.
