I just bought a massey-Fergusson 1533 with 500 hours, with a backhoe attachment. After I paid the private party, he was kind enough to teach me some stuff. But we ran into a problem. After I started the tractor, whenever I put the lever into forward or reverse, it shut down. I believe he was genuinely shocked by this problem, and insisted on getting me out of the chair and doing it himself. But the problem was real but intermittent. This tractor should be perfect for me, I have just 7 acres, doing some commercial planting, trees, berries etc. My research suggests there is a problem with the safety systems, in particular the seat, and hopefully some investigating there will resolve the problem.

I think Sierra Tractor sold/worked on those; Brian might be able to point you in the right direction. It does though, sound like an issue with a safety switch on the direction lever. Maybe out of adjustment. Did you get a manual with it?

Yes, I think that's right. I did get a manual and I will be going through it before I do much more. Thank you so much for your advice.
