NewB has Zero turn Engine replacement questions

07 Simplicity Javelin, the 20HP Kohler Courage just went. Machine was great until then, I want to replace with a similiar HP B&S through the Northern Catalog. I'm shadetree mechanically inclined so I should be fine but I've never done one of these before.

1) What motor fits? Hits? I guess I'm measuring shaft diameter? and keway? I want to make sure I'm ordering the right one.

2) It should be: disco starter wire, fuel line, unbolt old and bolt in new correct? Any advice from guys that do motor swaps all the time have for me??

A little more than that - check on line for the manuals and you will need to remove the clutch and drive system belts and pulleys on the bottom end assemlby first.

I ended up going with a similiar/nearly identical Kohler for a few reasons: 1) I wanted to be relatively certain not only did the shaft fit, but the linkages and whatever else were in the same place. 2) I really want to get another 3-4 years out of this mower before hopefully I will be in a postion to get a new one. If it lasts longer, great.

oh, progress: Old motor is out, came out pretty easy, clutch slipped off the shaft with a little prying, new one is still in the box waiting for a free 4 hour time slot for me to pop it in.
