My boss overseas was very proud of his home... he had all American Appliances... side by side refrigerator with ice and water in the door and a Maytag Washer/Dryer pair...

Just goes to show how some things are more valued when they are not the norm...

I think our Swiss house had Miele (or Meile). The UK house had Bosch. When we moved there with 2 young boys my wife was not happy with the size of the washing machines (but she tends to complain about a lot of things). Since then she got over it and insisted on front-loaders.

My Eudora was rather small in capacity but is was a single unit with washer/dryer... which really saved space!

Kind of like the old American front loaders from the 1950's that were combo machines... still have my grandmothers.

Just about all American Washing Machines were front loaders in America until the late 50's when top loaders gained share... larger capacity and you could add clothes during the cycle and less stooping as Grandma would say...

My sister in law here in California wanted a new large capacity front loader pair when they moved to the ranch... she detested the washer/dryer my brother had so they bought a new set.

It's been two years and there have been several warranty calls... she still likes it but my brother is already concerned what will happen when the warranty is up...

My old hand me down Kenmores are still going strong...

I think people should be able to get whatever they desire and can afford... it's just sometimes I hear friends and neighbors go on and on about eco-friendly and how much they are going to save going new high end and I just don't see it...
