Kioti 20 HST ancient Rhino traded in
I read in several posts not to use starting ether with Kioti diesels. What is the harm? I am not being facetious here, I really want to know. I had an old Chinese 24 hp diesel and I used ether in with no apparant trouble. The heavy construction guys seem to use ether all the time. My Kioti CK20 HST seems to start down to teens F but now I am wondering about what happens in real cold (sub zero).

Spraying ether in to an engine that has glows plugs will result in broken pistons if your lucky.
We have seen it done before.
One other thing if you read your warranty it also states that use of ether will void your warranty.
And that is one thing you can not hide no matter what you do we can still detect if ether was used.

This is why you should not use ether!
Gas engine

piston comes up with a charge of ether at tdc or after it fires ether ignites at a faster rate and you do hear some knocking.

Diesel engine w/o glow plugs grid heater or thermo-start

piston comes up 3/4 of they way up and fires because of the heat of compression trying to drive the piston back down, this will severly shock the piston, bearings, con rod.crank, starter ,timing gears, etc.

diesel engine with glow plugs

same as above but glow plugs will ignite well before the piston reaches the 3/4 point and the damage is as bad or worse .

diesel engine with grid heater or therm-start

DON'T EVEN TRY IT !

I understand ether will also shatter rings, performance will degrade over time.

Funny, as some diesels, like my deere dozer, had a ether fitting to hook up a bottle. Still never used it though.

It's trouble waiting to happen.

If you are not starting in cold there is something else going on, low compression, or the like.

My deere, without glow plugs started down to zero, took a little time, but she always started.

Well, I guess that tells me what I wanted to know, I will go to an engine heater of some sort if the beast wont start. Not been a problem yet.
Thank you for all the information, much appreciated.
Rick, cross my heart I haven't used any ether-keep the warranty in tact.;)
I am ready for this weekends snow, got the old Meteor snow blower on, fun fun.
