I knew that I did not need a new truck as my old one 2003 Silverado had only 38,000 miles but I also did not need two vehicles. So I traded my truck and Toyota Vensa in on a new GMC Sierra SLT crew cab.

So far I do like the new truck but I had not shopped for a truck sense 2003 and was shocked at the
1. Prices
2. Options
3. Generally the stuff they put on new trucks.

Yea, a 2003 truck is 3 variations behind the current models. My 08 seems old school to me even though it has Nav, Backup Camera, Center Shift, Electronic Locking Diffs, ect. The power and economy are what's even more impressive.

Your old one makes me miss my 2004 a little bit.

Wow, sure seems like enough for a truck, my first new one in 1977, Chevy c10 2wd,8cyl, long bed, auto trans, did sport a radio and a\c was just over $3,200....Hard part for me to understand is government says inflation is low and healthcare costs are going be lower ???????? Huhh?????

I bought a new Toyota Tacoma back in Nov/Dec. Would have bought a Ford Ranger but the brain-dead managers at FMC discontinued making 1/4 ton pickups. Any who, came with a Siri Satellite radio and they keep asking me if I want to subscribe. Come on folks. I bought a truck, not a bloody entertainment center on wheels!

$1750 under MSRP sounds like a bad deal to me. Maybe they don't move much on price in your area. I paid $800 under invoice when I ordered my truck in 2011. Plus I kept about $6000 in rebates. Are there no rebates on yours?

Seems like it would have been cheaper to keep the Venza and old pick up. The truck would run 200,000 miles and the Venza 300,000.

That new truck sure is good looking though! (0: congrats!

I've also been thinking about a new truck. My 2001 F150 is in super shape but it's approaching 200K miles. I'd like to relegate it to the farm and get something a little bigger for carrying groceries :) The prices on new trucks are UN-REAL ... so, we'll see. My wife is pushing me to go ahead but I'm still a little hesitant to take that kind of money out of the bank.

The only thing missing on mine that were options were about $50,000 worth of options. These trucks are high. But Ford and Ram are in the same ball park. I did not get
1. Sunroof
2. Nav
3. Sliding rear window

I don't go anywhere they don't have maps for so I did not need the nav, I never opened the sunroof on the vensa, and I like a/c so I did not need a power sliding rear window. I have sense had the bed sprayed with Rhino liner like on my 2003, Stepbars to help climb in and out without having to use a rope, and weathertech floormats front and rear.

The best mileage I have gotten was 20.3. It has a screen that lets you track 25 miles, 50 miles and 400 miles. I have been averaging just over 19.7 by manual calculations the computer said 20.0. Which is closer than any other car or truck I have seen. I still only have just over 1100 miles on it.

This truck has more equipment on it than my last Cadillac or Corvette. If they keep adding features I can see them selling for $75,000 by 2019.

Buddy of mine is a Salesman. Said his top sell has been $67,900 for a King Ranch Super Duty. So,,,, they'll be over $75K in 5 years.

Edit: Forgot to mention, Wife was shopping for a new Jeep Grand Cherokee diesel recently. Online price was $56,000. She settled for a '11 model Overland, loaded, 50K miles for $33K.

Congrats on the new truck! Looks good! I wish I could have talked to you before you traded in your truck though! I'm not sure how the used market is around you, but around me the older Silverado's/Sierra's like yours are in HIGH demand. They can't keep one on the lot and when they go to the auctions looking for them they are bringing a premium price and the dealers are in bidding wars for them. No way in you know what would I have let them give me a trade-in for your truck with those miles and a Venza for $22,000. I would have laughed in their faces and given them the half of a "peace" sign as I walked out the door. My little Tacoma 4x4 brought $27,000 trade-in and it only had 22,000 miles. I even told the salesman whose a friend of mine to not come back with his numbers if they were less then what I wanted (which was $26,000). You also should have gotten AT LEAST $3,500-7,400 in rebates. What happened to those? My friend gave me rebates that the GM website didn't even tell me I qualified for! My truck stickered at a little over $45,000 and I was out the door, rebates, trade-in, and a little haggling, for $23,000.

Crap every time I read one of these posts I want a new truck. I drive an 03 Ram, base model, manual windows and locks, cracked dash. The most advanced feature is cruise control. The trade in is minimal. But it only has 75K so just can't justify a new one.

The costs of new trucks is insane! I remember when I was a kid dad always bought a truck because it was a LOT cheaper than a car..... Those days are gone

I test drove a 2013 but just couldn't do it so I'm still driving my 95WT Chevy with 97k.

High 30's to low 40's is the going price of a mid tier pickup nowadays..Tough to swallow, but that's the way it is. Incentives aren't all that high because they are moving the iron..When that slows down and the buzz of the new models wear off, there will be larger incentives again most likely.

Upside is that they are giving downright stupid money for decent trade-in pickups..That takes the sting off. I certainly wouldn't have bought a Sierra Denali if they hadn't given me a big jump on the price with my trade.

I just ran the CPI Inflation Calculator. They claim that $3,200 in 1977 dollars is the equivalent to $12,400 today!

Wish I could buy the new equivalent to the Chevy c10 for that money.

The sad part is you could buy a brand new F-650 or F-750 for $10K less and have something that can actually do some work.
