Looking to replace my Silverado and have talked to the dealer about the 08 LT model and waiting on him to get back to me with the initial pricing numbers. Right now they are offering zero financing and the truck I looked at was MSRP price was just under $33,000 after a short talk we were down to around $28,500 with the rebates and what they call their off from invoice price. Darn if I can ever figure that out?

I am a bit up in the air about buying and wondering what everyone thinks of the new style Silverado (as they call it), Ford F-150 or Toyota Tundra? I am not in any real hurry to trade my truck, but if the price is right I am ready at anytime to pull the trigger.

Any help with this is greatly appreciated!

Well you certainly don't give much info. how old is your truck what options on it ect. Whats on the new one 1/2 or 3/4 ton ect. Truck buying is more emotional than anything so you just buy when your ready. $28,500 for a new 1/2 sounds like a really good price to me. The bottom line comes when whats your trade worth assuming you are trading. Mine usually ain't worth dink as I beat em to death.

Well, I have a 99 LS Silverado with 120K miles. Like other people I am sure I held onto the truck too long and the trade in value just won't be there.

The truck I am looking at is a 1LT pretty much loaded up. It is a 1500 1/2 ton extended cab with all of the little things one expects plus XM Radio, On-Star, 5.3 V-8 engine, cloth seats, heated auto dimming mirrors (nice in New England), list of items is rather large, but the sticker price was right around $33K. I feel the 28.5 price is good too. Not sure of the actual bottom line as the salesman did not fax over the figures to me yesterday so it will be early next week before I see them. I am also looking at the Tundra, but not sure if I would go away from Chevy or not at this time.

I am just not sure what other areas are getting for trucks these days.

Im assumming you are just going to use it for general use. Im probrably one of the older guys here, so here goes. I started out I only bought Chevy's, then years later I got a great deal on a Ford (picked it up for payoff at bank) So now Im a Ford man, went through a couple Fords. Then my brother started working at the Dodge dealership, when the big grill truck came out, went through a few Dodges, last one was a quad cab V10, what a truck, then I retired and started a construction company and I buy what truck that will do my work at the best price, I dont care what the name is. I dont like Toyota's but they sell a lot of them.
I currently have three Fords (F150 -2 F350-1) Dodge 1500, wife van is a Dodge, you guessed it, my brother still works at the Dodge dealer.
The reason I wrote all this stuff is, I buy where I can get the best deal, I think most of all the new trucks are about the same. I would buy whatever truck dealer, gives you the best deal. If you are able too, dont trade your truck in, you AINT gonna get much for it. Try to sell it locally. Dont sign nothing, tell them you are going to check the Fords and Dodges out, boy you will see them trying to kiss you Bu-t an give you a better deal. Have you ever heard this"if you buy today, I will let you have it for $$$$$, most of the time thats close to the bottom $$. Now take that number to the Ford or Dodge and see what they say for the same class truck, if its not less, say I can get the Chevy for$$$. They hate this, but it works
Last but not less, my wife refuses to go car shopping with me, she says she feels sorry for the sales person, when I'm finished LOL Its all about $$$$ mine:D

The last two trucks I bought I went to Edmunds or Blue book and was honest in my trucks condition FAIR and got the average trade value. When it came time to talk money I handed that quote right off of the web page to the salesman/sales manager and both times they agreed with out ever looking at my truck. Reason... they ain't gonna keep it, they are gonna auction it first chance they get and those prices are close to what they will get. Just can't be greedy. if they are saying 28.5 before trade I think you got a good deal. Don't know about you but I trade the same dealer all the time last two trucks I bought i even used the same salesman. That kinda helps. Right now I have a Ford and a Chevy. Just can't bring myself to buy a Dodge and I despite the TV hype toyotas just don't cut it under hard use here in the desert. I need somthing that will pull 12,000 lbs 23 miles of dirt road every time I go to town.

I bought an 07' new 1500 series and I could not be happier , the Chevy is a nice truck

I bought an 07 Ram 1500 4x4 in May, 2007. Nothing overly fancy, SLT w/PW, PDL, Tilt, cruise, Power Mirrors, regular cab. Sticker was $30550. After rebates and dealer discount, we were down to $21550 before trade. I had a 2000 Chevy S10 ext. cab ZR-2 4x4, 99000 miles, equipped about the same as the Dodge.

I bought a new 08 Silverado 2500HD w/6.0 engine. It replaced my 2003 1500HD w/6.0L. Put about 3300 mi. on it so far and no problems. It is a crew cab and similar to my 03, but nicer. More HP and more Torque out of same engine

I considered diesel, but with it being appx. $8K more for diesel and allison, and the new diesel emissions standards, I decided to stick w/the 6.0L, especially since I don't trailer so much.

I've heard and read good things about the new Tundra, but have no first hand experience.

I've had good luck with my last 3 Chevy's, but had Fords before that. Don't like the Dodge interiors, and shyed away from the new Ford diesels also due to new emissions.

Drive them all and have fun w/your purchase

I would have waited another year or two to buy, but the tax break was ending, so I moved a little quicker.

My other half is in the car biz, the other day we saw a Toyota dealer our on a dealer trade run towing the cars being traded with a Chevy. I asked the driver why chevy and he said the Tundra couldn't last like the Chevy could under towing all the time.

I feel better now :)

I'm a Toyota man. I love all things Japanese made. But, I'll tell ya something, if I were in the market for a new truck right now, I'd buy a new Silverado, loaded, with 4x4. I just love the look of that truck. Chevy did it right on this one, great reviews, truck of the year and my research denotes that it's pretty reliable to be so new (the new style). Hats off to the designers who molded this bad boy. The 4x4 model with the extra clearance/bigger tires looks sweeeet.

I have a 2007 GMC Sierra 1500 Crew Cab...........only thing I would change is I should have gotten the 4wd, but it's not really killing me too much. The new styling is really good looking and people always assume my truck is 4wd.
Biggest issue I had at first was the hood design. It's flat and cuts off square at the grill which makes the truck appear bigger and closer to whatevers in front of you. Another complaint is that the door opening in not as tall as my older truck so consequently I've had to learn a new way to lean my head while getting in/out of the truck - otherwise 'bonk'.

I get the GM employee discounts through my brother, so (amounts are approx given my memory losses) my $32k truck was knocked down to bout $27k; then I had a $5k rebate; plus another $1k off for bonus points on my GM credit card, and I was looking at a brand new $21k truck; then I traded in my existing Sierra Crew Cab and knocked off another $13k....So I financed about $8k to upgrade to a new 2007 GMC last Fall.

I work for Chrysler and Drive an 06 Ram 1500 Quad Cab 4x4 with the 5.7 Hemi V8, nice truck with fair quality. My neighbor, who I've known since about 7th grade, works for GM and drives an 07 Silverado. While the exterior styling of his Silverado is a little conservative compared my Ram, the Chevrolet (and just about anybody else's!) Interior blows my Dodge's Interior away. I was never impressed with the Ram Interior, but became very disappointed once I went for a ride in my neighbor's truck. Once you sit inside the Chevrolet/GMC, that interior should seal the deal on buying a new truck. Dodge can't get their new "DS" Platform out soon enough....just wish gas wasn't $3.25..

Just an update I will be picking up my new 08 Silverado LT tomorrow morning. It is the 1500 4WD Ext Cab with the LT1 package plus the power plus package, ez lift locking tailgate, off road suspension package, upgraded radio, remote vehicle start, heated mirrors (a real nice feature in the north country) power rear window, dual zone auto climent control, XM radio, power seats, and they included a spray in bed liner (actually this was already done on this truck and they used my small business ownership to give this to me as a benefit).

I had taken a redeye home from Vegas (trade show last week) so I could meet with Toyota to take a close look at the Tundra and see what they would do for me regarding trading in my truck.

They were pushing the smaller engine and I wasn't sure of the model level they were offering but thought it was the entry level Tundra. Well, I got there right on time today and the person I was to meet with wasn稚 there. I wasn't too happy aabout it, so I just decided to go back to the Chevy dealer and see what we could do to close the deal.

I am just not good at figuring out the deals that are being offered, but after about two hours of going back and forth I went out and switched the truck I was interested in and it had other features that they could offer a higher discount on and we ended up with a fair deal for my trade in truck and I felt the bottom line on the new truck was fair too.

The sticker price (as if that means a whole bunch) was $35,030 and after incentives and invoice price corrections it priced just under $28,000 so with my trade in the price of the truck was around $22,000. It is still a ton of money for a darn truck.

Having driven a few Chevy's over the years I believe the 08's have really come a long way both in style and the electronics.

Gm is offering customer loyalty rebates of $2000 in addition to the regular rebate. It's gotta be a 99 or newer gm your trading in to qualify. I'm looking at a leftover extended. Dealer told me I'd get $5000 in rebates and whatever dealer discount I could pull. Good price on these trucks is normally arount 10% off sticker, so your $35k truck should sell around 31-32k or so plus rebates. Your numbers seem about right.

WayneB,
Be sure and post up some pics of her after you pull the trigger. At least I can sniff the computer screen and imagine what a new one smells like again.:D

I believe I have done the best I could on the pricing issue. There is always the "Should Have, Could Have, Would Have" after the deals is done, but right now I think I will just enjoy the new truck and wait for someone to bang the door at the shopping mall so it won't be scratch free any longer.

Well, it is freezing rain falling right now so it looks like I will be able to break it in correctly today with salt, mud, dirt all the good stuff.

Podunkadunk:, that new vehicle smell last just about a month or so until the first payment is due and the state registration fee is paid. Here in New Hampshire the first year registration will be somewhere around six hundred dollars! Oh and there is the increase in the auto insurance too which will be a bit of a shock as well.

Well the truck in home just in time for mud season

They included the spray in bedliner which is really nice and I think will be much better than the plastic insert type I had in the last truck. There is an electrically controlled rear window, but with that option there is no rear window defrost.

I do like the way the back doors open wider, which will be much nicer when shopping. Notice the wife made me keep the old "catch-all matts" and then put them into the new truck, well they are there until the new set arrives within a week or so.

Very nice truck. I didn't realize the extended cab doors opened that far on the newer trucks.
