New Trailer Axles

   / New Trailer Axles #11
Just an update.... I picked up my axles today and they are stamped Dexter axle 2 -5200 # axles with brakes & springs for $750.00. Hope I got a deal

Those axles alone run 600.00/ pair here in so. Tx, seems you got a fair price with springs and all. I would go the the 7.50-16 or 235/85/16 10 plys. One thing you will need to consider is your fender highth vs. tire size. Assuming they were setup for the 15 tailer tire size. You will love the 16" 10 plys vs the 15" tires when on the road loaded heavy.

Just got back in town. I intend to replace the old fenders . They are all bent up. I'll adjust the height to the new tires

I hope I didn't but crap but I spent $300 for 2 ALKO 5200 lb axles with drums and little-worn brakes but withOUT springs. I put them on my 4 ton trailer and have been satisfied so far. (My truck can't pull and stop with 4 tons so I limit cargo to 2 tons). Misfire, Yeah, I bought them in NC. Why does that make them crap?

Bob

There is a 5,200 lb axle made in NC (not by Dexter) that really sucks in my opinion. As I recall they are out of Lexington. I don't remember the brand name of the top of my head. If your brakes work well, you probably don't have them.

Up grading the axles on my trailer

Does $750.00 sound like a good price for 2 - 5200# 6 lug axles brakes on both axles with springs sound ok ?

I went to the Dexter factory in Elkhart in August, 1990, to upgrade the suspension on our 32' fifth-wheel and they custom made me two 5200# axles with the optional 6000# tubes (3" x .250" thickness), 12" brakes, springs, spring shackles and made for 6 lug wheels. I replaced everything from the frame down to the ground, and got all but the tires and wheels from Dexter for $729.97 which was supposedly dealer cost at the time. I got the five load range D Goodyear Marathon tires (ST225-75R15) elsewhere. And since this was 22 years ago, I'd say your price is very good.
