Up grading the axles on my trailer

Does $750.00 sound like a good price for 2 - 5200# 6 lug axles brakes on both axles with springs sound ok ?

Seems right but is the trailer upto the task and the spring hangers in the right spot?

Not if they are what I think they are. I don't remember the brand name off the top of my head, but they have crap brakes and originate in NC.

Where did these things come from?

Spring hangers will work with new springs. Trailer has had more weight than that on it. I usually over load it as is. That's why I'm upgrading. Trailer is 5'' channel all steel trailer. Just can't decide on tires. Rims will be 6 lug. Just trying to deside on the tire sizes 225-75-16 (8 ply) or 235-85-16 (10 ply)

Guy at local trailer supply place tells me they are dexter axles. I said local. They have several large warehouses. They sell rims for large turuck and parts for large trailers

Dexter makes great axles. I would look for the maker's tag on the bottom of the axle or wherever Dexter places theirs to verify they really are from that company. They have have good support available on their website.

If I remember correctly dexter stamps the drums at the very least. That seems like an excellent price from what I have seen. Cheapest I have seen is usually 400-450 an axle if you want brakes and springs. I guess I haven't searched all that much though. Also not sure if they were dexter's.

If it were me I would go with the P 235-85-R16 (10 ply They are easy to come by.

I hope I didn't but crap but I spent $300 for 2 ALKO 5200 lb axles with drums and little-worn brakes but withOUT springs. I put them on my 4 ton trailer and have been satisfied so far. (My truck can't pull and stop with 4 tons so I limit cargo to 2 tons). Misfire, Yeah, I bought them in NC. Why does that make them crap?
