Hello all,
Today I put some seat time in on my new 2615, plowed the drive way and moved some deep snow. The tractor ran good, it started at the first turn of the key. I am still getting used to the sounds of a diesel engine, I just can't get past the knocking sounds that they deliver. For the past three years I have been running a 1953 Ford Golden Jub. Gas engine of course.
I had a good time on it, I cant wait for spring so I can take care of the projects that I have waiting. I did notice that even in four wheel drive the tractor still has some traction issues, I suppose chains may be the answer. Anyone know of any good tire chain brands? What do they usually cost?

What are you doing at the time when you are having problems with traction?

Also, what type of tires do you have on your 2615?

and what kind of work to plan on doing most of the time with your tractor?

Hello RedRiver,

I was pushing snow with the FEL at the time of traction loss. I know that this is normal, ie, snow= less traction. The tires on the machine are the industrial ones, they came stock, however I could have gotten a different type if I wanted too. The main job description for what I will be doing with the tractor is basic lawn care, brush hog fields, move dirt, stone, grade driveway. To be honest I don't even know what I can or can't do with this tractor.

I'll be honest and tell you that I'm not familiar with traction issues in snow because, well....we rarely ever have snow in our area. Maybe Galen or Wallace can comment on traction in snow issues since they are probably more familiar with it than I am.

You may want to consider filling your tires though if you continue having traction issues.

chains and filled tires will help in the snow.

When you folks say filling the tires, do you mean all four or just the rear?

I take it that one should use anti-freeze or calcium?

I have the 2615HST. Are your tires loaded? If not then you need to make a weight box or hang an implement on the 3 pt. for extra weight. I usually use the bucket to move snow but have a PUMA 64" blower for use on back or as ballast weight when plowing. There are many posts on homemade weight ballast boxes on TBN. I also made a bracket for the front of mine to put hanging weights on. Its not much but I have an extra 180 lb. pushing the front tires down. Also when plowing snow with your loader bucket use the float mode so it floats along the ground instead of being in a fixed position. Chains work great on icy surfaces but can be costly. I'm in the snow belt of central NY and have not needed chains in the 3 years I've had my tractor. The last few storms have dumped 18-24" at a time and I've gone right through it without chains. In fact I've stalled the tractor a few times before the tires spun.

Hey George2615,

What are you using to plow the snow with? The FEL or back blade?

This year I have plowed with the bucket, then lift and dump. Also have a 7' old truck blade I adapted to fit the loader arms but haven't used it this year. There are pics of it in the members photo section under other/mahindra. I changed the 4 bucket mount pins to pull type 1" pins so I can take the bucket off and attach the blade. You can also use a back blade for plowing too.
By the way, congrats on your new toy.

I see. I am thinking of obtaining a back blade. I want to grade my drive this spring.
Just a question for you, I own a 1953 Ford Golden Jub. Last year I cut down some pretty good sized trees and pulled them with the old ford. How many horse power does that old thing have? Would the 2615 be able to do the same or is that taboo?
